This might be helpful for some people out there who don't know what the controls do, or how they affect the Flanger. Very educational, and it also has some onscreen demonstrations to make it sink in a bit more.

You know, that would actually be a pretty cool graphic/name idea for a flanger pedal.

    Paul Gilbert did something similar.

One of the few pedals I regret not snagging. Though the Earthquaker Pyramids works similarly since both are inspired by the ADA Flanger and both involved 2 Racer X members in their design.

Anyone know of Flangers with momentary? I will probably end up getting a Boss BF-3, but wanna know my options.

Cautionary tale with the BF-3, the momentary always starts at the same place, so if you think of the flange going from like A > B > C > B > A as you leave it on, momentary always begins at A. Kind of kills using it for things like Unchained.

I LOVED that video. I'll have to check out more of his stuff. I knew most of what he was saying, but it's clear he researches and knows his stuff. I'm generally not a fan of flangers, but, oddly, I do like phasers and choruses. That pedal is pretty cool though. I like the features of that better than the ones I've had.

I've always just dialed mine to "the same settings Van Halen used" and kick it on when I want to sound awesome. :dime:

The EVH pedal would be awesome if it had the ability to switch to momentary switching like you can with VFE pedals.

I don't know what momentary switching is. I just have a Boss dialed in at 10 2 10 2 that I click on and off as needed.

A latching switch means it stays on when you depress it, and you need to press the switch again to turn it off. A momentary switch means it stays on for the amount of time you hold the switch down, and then turns off when you remove your foot from the switch.

I mostly use mine to emulate Chorus sounds, but after watching this, I wanna mess around with shorter times to try to emulate a doubler.

Well, I think I've found the answer to my question: the EHX Chill Switch. It is a momentary loop that turns on the flanger when I want it for little bits here and there, without having to "tap... tap. Tap... tap." all the time. In addition, it has two knobs that allow it to work in reverse, so if I need it on for a longer period of time (Rush, Heart's Barracuda), I can just use that and not hold the switch down to disable the effect, basically.
