I have been a seven string player for several years and finally bought an RGA8 to try it out but no matter what I do with my 2x12 solid state amp it sounds like garbage! Do you have any advice for a newbie 8 player on how to eq a good djent/ metal sound?

    Treble: 8
    Mids: 0
    Bass: 10
    Gain: 10

Thats my settings then I boost with a boss metal zone with everything set to 10 except mids, you dont need those.

Why is your treble only at 8?

Get new pickups. The stock ones in the Rga 8 are absolute, muddy trash

Yeah I figured I would have to. In the eight string version are blackouts or EMG better?

if you want a good djent sound, turn the gain down bout half way. I wouldn't recommend trying to make chords with that low F#

Line 6 Spider III, scoop your mids and put the gain all the way up. Be sure to turn the digital reverb on at all times.

I actually found that my amp was the problem. Just couldnt get a good clear sound at all with any of my combo amps, then i got an HD500 with a poweramp and cab, and with all the flexability the unit offered i could get exactly what i was looking for. if you've tried a bunch of different EQ settings, you may want to look into upgrading your amp setup.

BUT FIRST, change those damn pickups. rg8 stock pups suck on a legendary level.

Ibanez makes nice guitars and pedals but crappy amps. Get rid of that thing and pick up a Peavey 6505+ half stack, an Ibanez Tube Screamer and a noise gate like a Boss or a ISP Decimator and even with the funky pickups you'll be real close to getting the tone you're looking for. Another wicked amp is a Marshall JCM 800 KK with the built in noise gate for all the palm mute stuff.

solid state amps suck! but for a djent tone on your amp:
    mids:10
    parametric mid control:6-7
    bass:4
    treble:6-7
    gain:5-6
    reverb:0
no idea what the 'HUE' thing does, if it's a scoop switch 2 should suffice

although, I would suggest getting a set of Dimarzio d'activator 8s or the bare-knuckle aftermath set and a tube amp (engl) if you really want to get a real djent sound.

last time I tweaked my buddys amp for his 8, we went for high mids and treble, fairly low bass and good amount of gain... made everything sound even and cut trough real well
