    Hello guys,

So, I'm switching pickups myself for the first time and I'm really confused, even after ransacking the internet and ss.org for wiring diagrams for countless hours.
The axe is a RG465M with a 5 way 8 pin switch, 1 vol 1 tone. I'm replacing the air norton s neck by a true single coil (ssl1). How should I wire this mess to get the following positions :
    1:bridge hum (d-activator)
2:bridge split (coil closer to the bridge)
    3:bridge full + neck single
4:bridge split (coil closer to the bridge) + neck single
    5: neck single

Is this wiring even possible with a 5 way 8 pin switch or do I need a 24pin one ?
Thanks a lot for your help !

You may need a 24 pin switch. Those 8 pin ones are one trick pony and I run from those as the devil from the cross (not religious here, just saying)...

For that wiring project, there are some points that need a deeper thought.
    1. Bridge hum is in serial, I assume
    2. Bridge single next to bridge would be the south coil if you place the pickup with the wire directly into the cavity
    3. Bridge full (serial) + Neck single -> what does the "+" means, serial or parallel connection?
    4. Bridge split (south coil) + neck single -> what does the "+" means, serial or parallel connection? Also, in order to get Hum canceling on this option, the Neck single pickup MUST be NORTH polarity. Be sure to get this one when buying.
    5. Neck pickup (no problem here)

In case you already have the single coil pickup, use a compass (those software ones on the smartphones may be of use) to check its polarity. Be advised that Earth's North pole is actually south polarized... or so I have read somewhere. Check youtube if in doubt, there are plenty of videos on this matter.

Thanks for the answer. Yeah, I figured that a 24pin switch will do the trick, I went further into wiring and the way traditional 5way switches work. The 4th position would be the two singles wired in parallel.

... and in the 3rd position?... all serial OR Bridge serial in parallel with the neck OR all parallel OR bridge parallel in serial with the neck?

My bad, the 3rd one would the bridge wired in parallel, in series with the neck

I think I could give a try and draw it with a VXL91 (superswitch from ibanez) just because I have it already drawn in my CAD file, but you will have to translate the wiring diagram to the switch you'll use.

    Please confirm the desired wiring:
    1. Bridge serial
    2. Bridge South Coil (single coil mode)
    3. Bridge wired in parallel, in series with the neck
    4. Bridge split (south coil) + neck single (north polarity), Parallel mix
    5. Neck

    Please confirm the hardware:
    • Tone+Vol pots
    • DiMarzio D-Activator Bridge
    • SSL1? Which brand is this single coil? DiMarzio's? Can you find its wire color code for Hot and Ground leads?
    • Jack type: barrel, open, other?

I'll see if I can do this tomorrow...

I've been lucky with this site all the diagrams I've needed were there or I figured out how to combine them for my needs , but ya $30 is ridiculous

See if this scheme is what you are looking for. Obviously, if you'll use another switch, translate the scheme for the one in use. Also, if anyone finds a mistake, let me know.

If it's all dimarzio pups, email them! They send you a diagram within a couple of hours.

No problemo. Make sure the single coil is North pole, so this makes sense. If it is south pole, I'll have to draw something else and for that specific coil positions, you'll have to rotate the bridge pickup facing the north coil towards the bridge...

Also, post the results after the wiring is done, if you choose to do it.
