I wanna buy my first 7 string.

Budget : around 850$
I'm considering : Ibanez , Schecter , Sterling , ltd or anything else
i like thinner necks , i would prefer passive PUP's , tuning Drop A .
genres : death metal,deathcore,djent,progressive etc.....

Honestly, go with the new RG8 for $400, and mod the ever living crap out of it. Its gotten extremely good reviews, and a price that will keep a bunch of money in your pocket. I just recently played one for the first time, and it feels way more expensive than a $400 guitar.

Yea like the other guy said. I personally have no experience from playing 8s, but I have looked around quite a bit around this and other forums. And from what I've seen, the RG8 comes highly rated and is pretty nice, especially for your first. If you're willing to pump in more cash, you may even consider the RGA8. haha or possibly just mode the shit out of the RG8 x3

I'm going to assume that you mean seven string given that this is in the seven string section and Sterling doesn't make an eight. Assuming this is true, used Carvin DC727/747/700s can be tracked down for well under $850 and outclass most Indo/Korean imports also in that price range. Ibanez RG7420 and 7620s also go used for less than that, which is great because they're MIJ with thinner necks and have frequently had upgraded pickups installed. Assuming you want to buy new, I really like LTD's line of signature sevenstrings.

In that case, I'm a huge supporter of the RGD7421. I just recently purchased one, and I love it. Its an inch longer than a traditional ibanez, and its got some sweet body contours. This is probably the 5th time I've suggested the RGD7421 on this forum. Maybe I'm obsessed? I mean, I have two other seven strings, but the RGD is just so easy to play.

I usually look at any ibanez and wonder what pickups I'm going to put in it, but that comes from collecting so many over the years. I don't like actives, so the only iron label that ever appealed to me was the S series, because its stock loaded with real passive dimarzios. I'm actually about to buy the 6 string S series iron label in a few weeks :agreed:

The stock pickups on the RGD7421 aren't terrible by any means, but they're there as place holders in my eyes.

The AW-7 seems to be a great guitar. I would go with that, or an RG/RGD7421. You won't really be disappointed with any of the 3.

For the OP,
Would this be your main guitar or just something new and different? The reason I ask is because $850 is kind of a weird price point in the 7 string market; everything is either less than $850 or more than $850. $800 - $1000 is a bit of a "no mans land" unless you buy used. If this guitar is going to be something new and different I would look at the Ibanez RG7421 or RGD7421. They are really solid guitars with great necks. You would probably want to change the pickups but thats part of the fun! Even with a set of Dimarzio's you would still come in under $850!:yesway: I wouldn't buy Bare Knuckles because they will cost almost as much as the guitar.:noway:

If this guitar is going to be your main guitar I would recommend buying used because with $850 you can get a top tier guitar if you look around. I bought a mint Ibanez UV7PWH for $899 used from Guitar Center and it was easily worth 2x that on a bad day. In fact, Guitar Centers used equipment is loaded with bargains. Its the one reason I hope they don't go out of business.

Just my 2 cents...

I guess I was wrong. Is the AW-7 the ESP Alex Wade model? I don't get out much. :wavey:
