Well, Ive been a member here for quite some time, but never really hung out here. I like what I see here, looks like a great well run forum.

My name is Perry Ormsby, and i operate Ormsby Guitars from a factory in Beconsfield, W. Australia. We build handmade custom guitars and basses, which are generally one off instruments built to order. I personally prefer set necks, but i build bolt-ons and through neck guitars as well, use all types of lacquer, and can't walk past a piece of quilted Maple without stopping for a second look :)

As part of my business, I'm also the warranty centre for all the major brands imported into Australia. I also have a column in Australian Guitar Magazine each issue, and occasionally write tech based articles for them. Every now and again I'll build some tube amps, but I pretty much reserve those for my existing clients these days.

The instruments are sent all around the world: Europe, USA, Canada, UK and of course throughout Australia. I have a distribution deal for the USA which is set to start in 2009, if I can get enough guitars built. Most of the commissions I take on are for six string guitars, but sevens, eights, 4/5/6 string basses and Multiscale instruments are all catered for. Depending on the design, the waiting list is up to two years to have it built.

My guitars feature my own pickups, but I'll also use Seymours, EMG, Dimarzio, or any other brand my clients request. These days they usually go for my own gear, and we are about to officially release the pickups as an aftermarket item. Up until now, you could only get them in a guitar I built.

I no longer play in any bands, but if I did it would be something that sounded like a modern day eighties hair metal :shred: I have a skin condition which effects my fingertips... the skin literally flakes off... leaving them too sore to fret notes for any decent period of time. I sometimes have to tape the ends of my fingers just to use my tools, but that wouldnt work playing guitar.

Work takes up a lot more time than I would like, but when I do get time off I enjoy working on my cars, or cruising around in them. I have two Monaro's: One is a 2003 CV8 LS1 6spd with around 550hp, and the other is a 1968 HK GTS 327 which I'm working towards restoring to original condition (but with upgraded engine and brakes). For those that dont live in Australia, a Monaro is basically our version of a Pontiac GTO or Camaro.

Anyway, hello to the forum, and if you have any questions, let me know!

Wat up i've been a member for a couple of months ...pretty new i know. I play guitar for Burial Within (check us out!!). Also i've only been playing 7-string guitars for a couple of weeks technically because i just bought one. It feels great i thought the transition was going to be horrible but i love it. I've been playing for 3 years. I have an ibanez rgexfx and a rg7620 through a 5150>marshall 1960a.
