Anyone ever try one of these? I listened to the clips on MF and thought it was kinda cool. So I picked one up.

It arrived and I was in awe from how cool this thing looks... Plugged it into my 1988 Randall RG100ES and was BLOWN away :hbang:

These pedals really tear it up. I can get the massive-ness of tone like $1800 amps (Dual Rectos) to 5150 / XXX / and other metal amps.... but different.

Out of boredom yesterday, I swapped the Sovtek 12AX7 to a JJ 12AX7 and tried a GT 12AX7. I must say the JJ really brings this alive.

IMO, this is the most underrated Distortion pedal on the market. (if you like massive, in your face, tone)

Check out some clips on the net and tell me what you think.

They used to catch my eye when I was younger and thought that tone came from pedals not amps. But the price tag is way too much for me ($180?). Thats almost half of what I could get a used v3 for. Glad it works for you though.

True, $180 is alot! But I look at it like this:

    $180 pedal
    $250 used 1988 used Randall RG100ES

    = $430

And compete with Dual Recto or tweak it to compete with any 5150 / XXX / V3.

$1800 Recto or $430 hungry growl From Dimebag's preferred amp on steroids?

I don't think the Metal Monster + RG100ES sounds anything like Pantera (unless you want it to) I set it up to sound like Sevendust and Disturbed.

I have a page on the Randall with Guyatone biography at gear-monkey:

Well, a carvin v3 is about $500 used in good/great condition. But to each their own.

I never played V3. but do they have as much balls and punch as Dual Recto with that almighty low end growl?

I know the V3 sell cheap, but wasn't impressed with the mixed bitter sweet reviews that I've read.

I guess my point with the Metal Monster / RG100ES together was for $400 bucks you can get comparable tone to the dark XXX, the ever so tight 5150, you can get the low end growl and punch of a Triple Recto... and still have that 12AX7 tube to give it the natural warmth.

Basically for $400 bones you get over $3k worth of tone Vs. a $500 V3 amp.

Granted, the V3 will give you the clean, crunch, possibly brown sound.. while the Guyatone + RG100ES is only going to give you balls to the wall meaty distortion.

If you like cleans, then this gear isn't recommended.
