Remember the TP shortage? Well now everyone is queueing up for audio interfaces. Apparently the public is bored and eager to create...

Just spent half a day hunting down an instock, available Focusrite Scarlet. And cheapo Behringers? Forget about it, they're backordered till the end of the end of the world

And the actual guitar centers have long queues out the door in otherwise emptyish malls and take your temperature to enter.

    Crazy times.

GC also buying at below dirt cheap used gear from starving musicians, about 10% on the dollar of what your used gear will cost.

Idk, but apparently Focusrite is big there? The box says in Russian (and ONLY in Russian) that it's "the world's most popular soundcard [sic]"

PS I answered the questionnaire very literally... and I am indeed FROM Moscow

Whether or not I was actually in Russia when I registered I'm not sure (for a while I was)

I already stopped going to my local Guitar Center because their stock is hit or miss. Now I get to wait in a long line and probably be out the door in a few minutes because I can’t really touch the guitars and there’s also really nothing to see or play.

    yayyyyyyyy.

Amazon and co were backordered on $100-ish-and-below USB interfaces for like a week

I got a narration gig that won't wait, and using a high-ish end cellphone was okay-ish for cutting single samples to get the gig...but was a nightmare to work-work with.

So I needed to get a decent rig for PC, asap.

Managing like 10,000 10-20second clip files on android? NAH

It all sucks. I really don't look forward to going back to school and having to use either my iPhone or MacBook Air to record myself playing drums or guitar for band.

Sweetwater doesn't deliver on Sundays so you can demonstrate progress in fixing your previous fuckups by Monday

Anyone know a good program for recording, naming, and managing a multitude of short voice clips via said interface, btw?

Single track, single layer, maybe a bit of EQ but nothing fancy - just fast and with minimum clicking around menu-wandering redundancy to create name and sort a shitton of audio clips with same presets

Can't really go wrong with Reaper. It's pay-what-you-will, flexible, and there are tons of tutorials.

Audacity? It's the most bare-bones just-works FOSS program you could possibly get aside from the default recorder in windows.

It's not just audio interfaces, all electronics are in short supply / being bought out immediately right now due to lack of supply of parts from Asia. It's gonna be a while before production / consumer purchasing balances back out to normal again. I've been in the market for a new laptop, and the options available in-store are terrible atm.

    Really?

The Guitar Center only looked noticeably out of items in the shit-for-recording department. Which was also the place with all the lines. And when I was calling around, everybody was like "oh...interfaces again...good luck dude".

PS are you looking for random-laptop or best budget / best gaming / trendiest hot item? Because I can totally see the same boredom-and-unemployment let's-try-shit-on-the-web trend that has interfaces in high demand apply to popular computer items as well

    Idk.

It actually seemed like a bunch of their business now is audio sh!t for streamers, youtubers, etc.

Lines in "pro audio", emptiness in the guitars area. Although they DID have don't-touch signs out there and everybody was being pretty compliant, so maybe that's why.
