Any ideas on where you’d go to find material to make this type of thing? I’m thinking of something along the lines of the grilles on the front/back of a SLO. It doesn’t need to be exactly that. I got a quote from a metal shop and to get something custom cut is like $150 per grille which seems a bit excessive for this project. Then again, might be worth it since it would be perfect.

Personally I'd find something that works without paying that kind of coin. Get creative!

BFG dude knows a guy who has some metal grill supplies. He got me the grills I used for my cab, cut and bent too. Mas trying to go for that old Vader, Boogie grill look. maybe he has something with smaller diamonds or a honeycomb.

The SLO looks like a version of "expanded" metal, in case that helps your search.

I used to get custom sized grilles from reliablehardware.com
Kinda spendy, but not 150 bucks.

Gutter guards can work. They're like several dollars at hardware stores. Maybe $3 or $4.
