Hi folks,

I recently bought a 1985 Ibanez Roadstar II RG 430. After getting it setup and having the pickups swapped I received it back from the shop and was quite unhappy with the sound of the bridge pickup (Bareknuckle Trilogy Suite). I discovered that the non-recessed Edge trem made the distance between the pickups and strings quite large, like greater than a centimeter. Trying to raise the pickups caused problems as I had some solid chrome covers (no pole piece holes) installed over the pickups, and the cover was much shorter than the height of the bridge pickup. To rectify this, I cut off the mounting tabs for the bridge pickup and need to figure out how to properly affix the cover.

My bridge pickup is now set 2.5 mm from the strings and sounds great, but that leaves me an extremely small margin for the pickup covers. The thickness of the covers is ever so slightly below 1mm.

Any one have any thoughts about this? I realize I could shim the neck and lower the Edge trem posts, but I still don't think that would alleviate the problem of still needing pickups closer than the covers allow.

TLDR: Super glue chrome cover with tab sawed off to my pickup pole piece?

God be damned, I need that sweet sweet linear chrome a e s t h e t i c.

I guess at this point I’m wondering what’s the worst that could happen if I put a small dab of glue on the outermost pole pieces? My thoughts are that later I’ll pull the pole pieces out of the pickup if I need to remove the cover, at which point I could just use pliers to remove them from the covers, sand off the glue and put ‘em back in…
