So I have recently become bored of the way my ibby 7 sounds and plays, and have a bit of money lying around.

I've been GASing for a Carvin 7 for ages, and I've pretty much decided that the way I'm gonna go, but I haven't decided on what finish I want (mainly cos there's so many to choose from!)
Infact the only things I have decided on is that I want a hardtail and stainless steel frets.

So now is your chance to give me your GAS!

Post lots of pics of cool carvin 7's! :D

i think go mahogany for the body + neck with maple stripes and then go for a figured koa or maple top, of course a birdseye maple fingerboard. Call me boring but i really like red and blue bursts, of course the guy who has a see through black one with the blackouts in looks great too. just combine artists guitars that you like.

I'd go mahogany body, walnut top, oil finish. Maple or ebony board.

    Since you asked:

    - mahogany/mahogany/maple top/OFR7/Blaze's

I've got another one being built now that's alder body/maple neck, white/white w/a gray burst, birdseye maple neck, fixed bridge.

Something roughly along these lines, but white/white (not classic white) and with a grey burst and birdseye headstock overlay (bad photoshop):

I would pobably get the same specs that darren posted, but with a walnut neck

Are walnut necks strong with just tung oil?

Ummm... it's not like paint is going to make a neck stronger, so I don't know that it's a relevant question. Carvin wouldn't offer a specific neck wood if they didn't feel it offered comparable stability to anything else they sell.

I'm talking about warping and stuff, tung oil is a light finish and some woods either don't accept tung oil, or are more succeptable to warping without a hard finish.

Same answer still applies (and it's 'susceptible' by the way... I'm a spelling nazi).

All my guitars have had tung oiled necks. None have ever warped. I don't leave them out in the sun nor in a freezer however, so YMMV.

It's weird that they don't seem to be offering the Pearl white finish anymore

Nope, no more pearl white (although you could always request it... the might still be willing to do it). Just white/white and classic white.

I'm impressed... you've still got the stock pickups in there!
