Jesus that even makes Kerry King’s solos listenable by comparison. Makes me rethink my recent purple tiger purchase

I'll have to give this a listen in the car tomorrow, I'm kinda stoked to hear how not good it is.

I mean there are guys here tripping and gushing over fucking Portal albums and then this 2 minute song doesn't make the cut ?
Lets just say it doesn't meet everybody's expectations

For no good reason at all I confused the thread name with David Lynch the director.. super confusing few seconds there, scariest part was reading it was "weak sauce" actually made sense and further convinced me of the delusion etc, of course after realizing this was the guy from dokken I was very relieved but also disappointed because I want him to make good music. Kinda ruined my day ngl

I like Lynch's old stuff bit this is pretty awful.

I don't know why old guys 'update' their sound by incorporating dated early 2000s industrial and/or nu metal crap.

Which track were you listening to man? I mean, it's terrible, but it's definitely not industrial in any sense of the word.

I agree that in general bands/artists shouldn't be just randomly injecting stuff that doesn't fit, I just don't see that happened in this case. Sounds like his usual style, just half-assed and creatively disinteresting.

The Lynch Mob Smoke This album was all Nu Metal/Industrial-lite in style and sound. Personally I quite liked it when it came out and still do, but its wildly acknowledged by most as one of Lynch's worst albums/experiments

Oh I'm sorry, I thought you meant the new album was industrial.

Not the worst I've ever heard. In the context of where this track lands on the album, it could just be a "fun noodling filler" slot, who knows. My 6 year old will love the beginning because that's all he knows how to do on guitar right now.

Probably not the review they'll put on the album cover tbh.

George is hands down one of my favorite players. This sounds just like most of the tripe he has put out since he has been on this finger picking roll.George definitely makes better music when working with a singer, however, we know he is capable of making stellar instrumentals. One listen to "Mr.Scary" is evidence of that. All the KXM stuff is great as well.

Kinda begs the question... why promote the album by releasing this as the teaser track?

I just gave it a phone listen because I saw how short it was.

It has a late 90's/early 2000's video game soundtrack vibe to it, though not in a good way. It kinda reminds me of the music from Exite Truck on the Wii. I can see the weird nu metal/industrial flavor people mentioned, kinda makes me think of some stuff Fear Factory did.

There was a pretty good interview with, I think Rick Rubin, some years back about how songs that were thought of as filler wound up being very popular, while songs slotted to be singles weren't, and it boiled down to some songs come into the studio with some baggage and that doesn't always come across after "the process" unless you were in the room.

I'll have to search for it, it was on some VH1 program like 15 years ago, it might not have been Rubin.

Yeah, even if no-one of note said that I believe this is completely true.

I think it gives a good insight into how the creative process works. All kinds of things mean that you focus in on specific tracks, and often it's because you were just excited about them at the time or spent more time working on them. When someone who has no idea what happened to make the album listens to it they don't have that baggage.

In reality, a lot of the time the tracks that you banged out in a day end up being better, even if you had almost forgotten they were on the album. You just kinda came in, played them fresh, enjoyed the process and they sound better for it.

Rubin is right - or whoever may or may not have said that.

Do we know if Lynch is working with a producer? This sounds a lot like he is going it alone.
