-becoming emotional when it comes to gear like EMG vs Fishmans instead of just evaluating the gear's capabilities.

-thinking just because a popular musician does something one way means it must be better (appeal to authority is a logical fallacy ffs)

-blindly recommending pickups instead of treating them as a fixed eq to fix issues with their current sound

    - doing something purely for aesthetic reasons over what's more efficient *cough* all you heathens that clip the ball ends on strings *cough*

-paying people to do basic maintenance and tech work on their guitars, when most of it is stupid easy to learn.

Caring about the opinions of other guitarists who are equally as bitter, ill informed and stupid...if not worse.

So much this. It's like, why even bother with the process if you're not all out on every aspect.

I was only half kidding: https://www.sevenstring.org/threads/rip-eric-devries.343557/

Yeah, I read that. I see Eric DeVries' personal life and his professional activities seperate. It's sad to see someone at a relatively young age go, but the guitars he made that circle the internet have a terrible reputation.

I'm a godless heathen! I always give a couple wraps around the post in case I break a string at the saddle. I can then unwind it quickly and get going again. Funny thing is I almost never break strings, but probably will tomorrow now that I said it!

But you still have to clip the other end anyway, at least on the wound strings?

... yes, it's super annoying and takes the longest time... but just a bit 'cause I need my string wraps around the tuners' posts, you know, till it looks like a true hand and scatter wound single coil...

    related:
    - buying 10 different overdrive pedals instead of one eq that would do better what they actually try to do with the overdrives
    - paying more than 100€ for a guitar pickup

I mean yeah if you're trimming the string to length, but the fine tuners can accommodate pretty beefy strings ime. I wrap a bit of the string around the tuner post so that way if it breaks I have enough length left to restring it quickly. It's still easier than the alternative ime.

-trying to broadly categorize all amps into archeypes like "american sounding" or "british sounding"
-turning down their nose at some clones of amps or pedals but praising others *cough* all of rig talk and tgp *cough*
-thinking that strandberg's proprietary hardware and 2x4 neck™ warrants a 2k usd price point
-believing that country of origin for gear matters more than good, reliable QC
-thinking that DCR will give you an idea of the output of a pickup (it won't)

    I feel personally attacked!

No, just kidding but I understand what you mean. Sometimes a simple black bobbin just doesn't do the guitar justice. Sometimes you just need that burnt chrome cover or black battleworn cover w. chrome hex poles or a combo of pink/blue/yellow/green/cream bobbins or whatever.. I paid more than 100€ for a cooler look before while a 50€ pickup might have gotten me the same or better tone.

Empirical evidence shows it makes me play and practice more. So it does in fact make me play better.

Ergo the trick to being a guitar god is buying more gear than the next guy. And at some point you just become famous.

And when a guitar is easier to play, you tend to play more as well.

Acting like pentatonic/blues shit is somehow beneath them, and never bothering to delve into it.

Same with "campfire" stuff. If you can't bs your way through nearly every hit song of the last century with a couple dozen chords I don't know what to tell you.

I don't mean that to be judgemental, it just seems so weird to look down on that.
