Faces ,oh the faces. I find guitarists faces the, strangest. I'm majorly guilty of it, the funny jaw wobble when concentrating hard while practicing, seems like automatic thing, im not even aware I'm doing it

Note to self: do not have your solo boost and clean sound next to each other on a pedalboard. That epic bend that starts off the solo might become quite the opposite if you don't watch your step

Get upset that other people favour modellers/profilers as though it challenges their preference to use tube amps.

Nothing in music needs to be either/or, you don't have to be anti-modeller to be pro-amp, you don't have to be anti-Kemper to be pro-axe, you don't have to be anti-six string to be pro-eight string.

Thinking that being super technical, knowing theory, and being able to do the widdle-diddles will launch you into stardom

And then being angry and slinging mud at other guitarists who are famous for simple riffs

This. If you're only playing to satisfy yourself, you can't complain when you only play to yourself.

You only need to know 4 chords to make a hit single anyway..

Most of those guys playing simple riffs and getting famous still know what they're doing. The only excuse for not knowing theory is laziness.

OT: Thinking knowing music theory means you only play neo-classical once you learn it. Music theory is DESCRIPTIVE, not PRESCRIPTIVE.

I know Jake E Lee said he had tried to actually break his because that would be a cool picture, but it never would. I just make sure to do it with the neck on my Les Paul instead of by the headstock like on a Strat.

Someone pointed out a while back that each instrument I play seems to come with it's own distinct instrument-face.

Thinking that guitar is a competition. I think these people weren't hugged enough as children.

I sort of disagree, I don't think guitar is a competition, because it makes no sense to see it as a competition, with all the subjectivity and personal taste involved, but I do like being driven and always wanting to improve, wanting to be the best I can be. If I'm around players who are better than me, I will get jelly and I will practice all I can until I feel I'm as good or as clean or whatever. But you can apply this to anything, guitar, mixing, singing, etc. I don't think that's a bad thing.

Yep, I've been in bands above my league before. By far the most progress I made was with those bands.

Normally I just play for myself...noodle around and sometimes learn a cool riff from a song I like.

Then...someone asks me to play (insert popular song) and I have no fucking clue. They are always like "what can you play?" and my answer is "I don't know...I just...noodle around and improv all the time...so here's Wonderwall"

One of the best things a musician, or anyone for that matter, to do is to surround yourself with people who are better at your craft than yourself, you can't help but grown by their exposure.

There's a big difference between inspiring and being inspired vs shitting on each other for not being "good enough," for whatever that means in music.

That's just called progressing. It's not the same as forever trying to have musical dick measuring contests with other musicians.
