I'd prefer an instrumental version. The torturous screaming that guy does for the first few songs has always gotten on my nerves. The music is phenomenal, but it's not an album I can listen to from beginning to end.

Was that album recorded analog, or is this one of those pointless digital to vinyl conversions?

There´s quite some information if you click the link.
It was recorded with an ADAT 8-track digital tape recorder.

Ah. I clicked the second link, and then clicked on the album name, thinking that was probably the same as having clicked on the first link. Looks like it will be worth it, especially for those like me that missed the CD editions. I am confused by the tracklist, as it has 3 tracks inserted (18, 20 and 22) that are not on the 3.33 release. Naturally, it doesn't have "Missing Time" or "Oh Baby Baby" on it, which is unfortunate but expected.

Wow, all the CD combo packs are sold out already. That sucks.

 But wasn`t it supposed to be torturous and intentionally NOT pleasing for the ear in the first place ? Wasn`t that the whole point, making a nerve wrecking album ? Thordendal achieved - exactly - that.

It's over the top but I always thought it was pretty cool in that respect. Definitely sounds intentional. :hbang:

Mission accomplished then, but I have to say that these screams ruin it for me too.

Version 3.33 lacks these tracks, probably to make it more available for the masses. There´s some hardcore organ going on as an example, definitely not for the average kid.
So, this is the record how it was supposed to be.

Are you seriously suggesting that the rerelease of Sol Niger Within was directed at the kiddies and the three tracks were removed because of that?? "Wasting Time" is basically straight Holdsworth rip.

Looking around at reviews of 3.33, I see a few that say things like "3.33 is massively better because they removed two of the s***fest organ tracks" I can't wait to hear the original, I guess! I really do like waking time, though. I guess I'll stick with my FLAC copy of 3.33 and the vinyl of this!

Well, I agree that might be a bit of a stretch :D
But I do think the 3.33 have a wider appeal due to the lack of those tracks.
No to forget that the original is one track, while 3.33 is divided into separate tracks so people easier can skip to favorite parts.
I´d like to believe that Fredrik had the idea that you should listen to the whole record start to finish, everything included.

The bonus tracks on 3.33 is just bonus tracks, and not really a part of the concept. Put extra stuff on the rerelease, and people will buy...

I think the vocals on this album are awesome. Such a unique and great album!

The original is one track? Every listing I've seen of it has the same 29 tracks as the record. Were there multiple pressings?

Yes, the original release was just one single track close to 45 minutes.
I know there´s a couple other pressings, one being a Japan something, but I don´t know anything about them.

I love Fredrik's solo work! As a tribute I made a cover of the Sol Niger Within medley (with Fredrik Thordendal and Morgan Ågren( with the drummer of my band live at music school where I studied in Sweden! Thought I could share it with u guys! :D
