It's always when I thought I've discovered every folk metal band out there, there's always another good one I don't know about! THANK YOU!

I'm all about these kinds of threads, but I'm just dropping in to wonder whether anyone's hitting up this Moonsorrow/Finntroll/Swallow the Sun tour in the States?

    Chicago stop is tonight.

And, heck, I'll also say (skipping favorites already mentioned):

Hardingrock - Ihsahn and Starofash get together with a Hardanger fiddle player.

Storm/Isengard - The blackened folk rudiments of Fenriz in the mid-90s

Windir - One of Norway's best in this genre--"Sognametal"

Belenos/Forefather - Two rather more raging, sort of blackened outfits.

    Old Ulver, of course.

And, although they were short-lived, Magog from Sweden. Don't know how available their stuff is these days, but their 2004 releases are both very, very good.

Skyclad! Damn, I think I have a couple of old CD's laying around. I've definitely got "Tracks from the Wilderness" and "The Wayward Sons of Middle Earth"

I love most of the stuff you guys have mentioned... I also like:

Also, my band is kinda folky - I mean, at least some of the songs. I am the only person in the band (perhaps except the cellist) who loves medieval music, slavonic, celtic and nordic folk, but since I'm the main composer I often incorporate folk into our songs as much as the other guys let me. Check out our myspace for our new song samples (album is to be relased in May):

Digging the Lumsk track. Reminds me a little bit of 3rd and the mortal.
Also cool to hear Lars' vocals on Asmegin. I'm a huge Solefald fan.

Bathory's two Nordland albums still send shivers down my spine, especially at the climax of Wheel of Sun, the last song before Quorthon's passing :( I always wonder about what the last two albums would've been like.

Other than that I'm the stereotypical douche who likes Blind Guardian too much. And a little Tyr here and there. ;)
