All of those (amt and be-od) can run on 9 volts. I tend to use 12 with my AMT (they say 9 to 12 volts on the side) but it’s been so long since I used 9 volts I can’t say what the difference is.

If you’ve already got them I would give it a shot. I never used the drive out on the legend pedals since I only got them for the preamp functionality, but they're really good.

Hm. Maybe it’s just the F1? I could’ve sworn at least one of them needed 12v but now that you mention it, I think I did run the others at 9. It’s been a while so I don’t remember. I’ll check them out again.

Hadn’t heard of those new ones. Pretty cool. Wonder how they compare to the Legend series.

I’ve been really tempted by the x-lead brick pedals (not pricy on reverb), but I really need to slim down on gear before I buy more.

I’m really liking my Horizon Apex pedal. I’m surprised there isn’t more chatter about it.

My Mooer 005 preamp is the best I have but it doesn’t fit a battery.

I did a shootout between five of my existing pedals through my Nextone and although none were bad, my results were:

    5th: Apex Preamp
    4th: AMT R2
    3rd: BEOD
    2nd: BEOD Deluxe
    1st: AMT P2

So I guess batteries are a non factor now and I’ll just use the Ojai.

Thanks for you guys’ help. I almost certainly wouldn’t have tried the AMTs again on this project. I’ll post up a rig pic after this is all done.

Edit: keep in mind the amp and the fact that this was into the front. YMMV :)

I get advance emails from them since I’ve bought so many of their products through the years lol... I think they’re $189. They have tubes, but it remains to be seen whether they are actually in the circuit. Most pedals with tubes are not even in the tone circuit they are just extraneous bling. I have several of theirs with tubes and they are good, but I have pure SS ones that are better (like the LA2 series). The AMT Mattias IA Ekhlund pedal is pretty sweet... but I’ll take the R2, P2, and Vt2 all day FTW.

Iirc the description of the x-lead states they run the tube at high voltage. Presumably using a little boost converter. That’s a lot to cram into those little pedals.

The Laney pulse also runs some tubes at high voltage using a boost converter but it’s also a much bigger box.

Yeah. Iirc they use heater tubes which are at a different voltage than regular 12ax7. At least that’s what all my other AMT pedals with tubes use. I asked him in my email but I forget what his reply was, but it’s prob on the website

The AMT pedals take 9v, but sound better at 12v.

I haven’t actually tried a Megalith Delta but, it’s 9v and sounds badass in just about every demo I’ve heard and, it’s usually demo’d going into a clean channel and, this is a run on sentence lol.

@USMarine75 would know for sure though.

Line 6 Uber Metal. It will make your amp sound like a rare and vintage Spider II.

But seriously, the tight metal is ok in front of the amp. Not as good as in the loop. Second the megalith delta. But I really like the Wampler Triple Wreck and the Slostortion. OKKO Dominator was cool too. I just dont remember if that ran on batteries.

I don't think the Empress Heavy is battery powered, but it's so worth checking out!

Empress heavy is amazing, little hungry on the mah though so a 9v with an adaptor might not last too long. If I didn't get a Kemper it would still be my main distortion sound.

I needed warranty service on my AMT pedal and the experience was so horrible that after that I can't in all honesty recommend any of their products.

Heh. My F1 pedal shit the bed and instead of dealing with that I just ordered another off reverb.

Either the Boss OD-2 or the SD-1.

Both push clean metal amps really well.
