EZDrummer 3 - custom kits

Since it's possible to mix and match kit pieces to build a custom kit in EZDrummer 3, I'd love to hear if some of you have experimented with that and if you've got any tips on doing so. Like many of you, I have several EZX expansions, and I'm looking to build a custom kit and template for using on recordings. I do have so specific questions if you've done this before:

1- if you can use any drum piece from any expansion, what do you choose as your base for the custom kit? Because this decision determines which room mics are used. This feels like the most important decision.
2- do you choose 'original mix' and then add your own EQ, reverb and compression with the multi out?
3- if you use the multi out, do you nest all the tracks inside a folder track (in REAPER) and add the bus compression to that track?
4- follow up to #3, do you add a track inside the parent folder for parallel compression and send the shells to that track?

One of my favorite features in EZ3 is they made it easy to incorporate your own drum samples. I snipped out the snare in “Digital Bath” and was able to use that in the kit I assembled. At some point I’ll have the time to sample the drums from my actual kit and incorporate those into a custom kit. I’d love to find professional samples of some of the pieces I use but don’t know of any resources for something like that. I always use a custom kit in EZ3, mixing and matching pieces. I really love the new version over 2.

I don’t use it for recordings at this time other than to get ideas down. With that in mind, your questions:

Does anyone have a drum template they would be willing to share that uses EZDrummer 3 + REAPER? I'd love to see an example and learn from it. Someting that has the multi-out setup and some general EQ/Comp/reveb with comp and reverb buses. Or know of where I can find examples? I'd even pay for some.

I'm not the most experienced so maybe I'm doing something wrong, but setting levels and overall tone has been tricky for me when trying to assemble my favorites from various kits. I haven't found that any of my custom kits sound anywhere near as good as the presets built into the expansions with slight modification (choosing a different snare from the same expansion for example).

YMMV but I haven't had great luck with what you're after.
