GuitarSetup, please answer this simple question:

HAVE YOU TRIED TO PUSH THE PIN DOWN WITH A THICKER STRING OR SMALL SCREDRIVER ETC...?

As everybody in this thread suggested to you. This is driving me insane.

I know exactly what you did, because I've seen this before.

You closed the locking mechanism and torqued it without having a string through the post. The cavity is concave at the top, above the string so you've effectively jammed the top of the locking piece to the top of the cavity.

Take a cotton swap, dip it in mineral oil and press it into the holes you feed your string through on both sides but don't apply too much, then turn the guitar upside down for 15 minutes so that gravity will let the oil drip to where it's jammed up. Repeat this process a second time to ensure it's been lubricated adequately (but not too much).

Then, flip the guitar right side up and grab a few toothpicks. Take one and push it into one side of the hole in the post with only a little force, then do the same in the hole on the other side of the post. You only want to use as much force as you would if you were pushing the toothpick against your own teeth. Repeat this process until the locking mechanism has released. If one toothpick wears out, grab a new one. You need to work the mechanism free because you've jammed it up.

You didn't do anything I told you to do, did you...

It's not broken, it's just jammed. Learn some basic guitar maintenance and it's a problem that is VERY easily solved.

If you're going to come here asking for help from people, but not follow anything that anyone in this thread has told you to do then don't bother coming here for help. It's a very quick way to get yourself on the SSO shit list.

If you cannot follow very simple steps to release the locking mechanism (because the instructions I provided will work 100% of the time), then you certainly won't be able to replace a tuning machine on your own.

Nope. I've just helped 3 dozen other guitarists with this exact same situation before.

Hope no one minds if I speak some Tagalog here.

Bro, napihit mo yung locking tuner ng masyadong mahigpit diba? Kuha ka ng cotton buds, lagyan mo ng mineral oil yung dulo, lagay mo dun sa butas ng tuner na pinaglalagyan ng string, tapos itaob mo yung gitara para makapasok yung mineral oil dun sa screw. Iwan mo ng 15 minutes, tapos ulitin mo ulit yung mineral oil.

Kuha ka ng toothpick, saksak mo dun sa butas ng tuning key, tulak ng konti para matanggal yung jam. Saksak sa kabilang side, tulak konti para matanggal yung jam. Ulit-ulitin mo lang yung pagsaksak ng toothpick sa magkabilang butas ng tuning peg hanggang matanggal yung jam.

Had to google translate this, but thanks for translating my instructions to him so that the language barrier is a non-issue. Good to have SSO members that can do this.

If you've got a replacement coming, why don't you trying fixing this one? The worst case scenario is you replace the thing you were already going to replace.
