I signed up for the Amptweaker Pro II pedal preorder the second it was announced. But its been really quiet... Got this interesting email from Prymaxe today.

Looks like the graphics/aesthetics have taken a bit of a departure which makes me a little sad. Still looks cool.

They have the 3 flavors of Tightmetal, Big Rock, and my personal favorite: 65672ce4-04d4-43cf-9ee2-355dfc73d4a0_large.jpg

Way to turn a fun boutique brand into something that looks cheap.

To be clear for a non-follower of the brand, these are the pedals that had cool orange on black font and the little metal bar on it, yes? If so, those looked so unique!

These look terrible. The skull is cheesy. If I did get one, I'd paint over it. Not a fan of differentiating the models only by knob color.

From a usability standpoint, I see some good, some bad.

Good: All the controls are on the outside, instead of internal trim pots. Foot switches aren't angled, since the angled footswitches on an angled pedalboard add up to way too much angle. Extra functionality is welcome: depth finder, defizz, balanced output, cab sim.

Bad: Those knobs look way too close together to manipulate comfortably, especially on stage. I'd move the resonance, presence, and tight knobs down to the row with the boost knobs.

When I first heard about these, I thought they'd be an instant purchase. Now I'm not sure. My originals are working just fine.

No led lighting, no magnetic battery door, zero cool factor but same price. Oh man.

I'm as big a fanboy of Amptw
This is where I'm at. My TMP already has the Depth Finder mod, so I'm not sure the cab sim out and built in Defizz is worth it.

I don't really use the fat switch much, so that's not as much of an upgrade to me.

One thing that would really sell me on the 2, if the noise gate was improved. It kills the noise very well, just too much tone suck for me.

Wow. Surprised at the 100% negative comments so far. I didn't like the looks of the old ones very much, but these look better to me. I'm not a huge fan of the graphic but it doesn't really bother me. It'll be moot if they offer customization like they did before, but if someone else is running the business, maybe that will stop. Anyway. I like them /shrug

Edit, the old colors/graphics are also available on the amptweaker website btw.

Its a bit less. IIRC $319 for the original tmpro and $80 for the res/pres mods. This is $299 for the same no?

But no cool stuff like you said.

Yeah, I was wondering about that; checked the Amptweaker site and it still showed the old graphic style.

From the onset this was gonna be more 'standard pedal' style than their old pedals, even back when it was announced. No metal bar thingy, no magnetic battery gate, etc.

Idunno, if it still sounds as good as the Amptweaker stuff does... Slap some black knobs on there and I'm good.

Either that or wait for a $399 Synergy 5150 module that might never happen.

I'm still excited, not a stoked as I was initially, still looks like a good product.

Why would you buy a brand then completely change the look of the brand? Doesn't that defeat the purpose?

    These look like cheap knockoffs.

Oh, so someone else bought the brand? I didn’t realize that. Is JB still associated around all or was it a full release?

Regardless, although the Amptweaker stuff was always pretty highly regarded tone wise, I think the look of them was a bit polarizing. A more standard look should appeal to a wider audience.

I don’t really get the cheap knockoff thing. My guess is that view is from the perspective of being annoyed it changed at all. They look a lot like Keeley or Seymour Duncan pedals. And nothing like NUX/Amazon Basics

Last I heard he sold the company and now works on EVH amps.

You might be buying another EVH in the future. :D

I knew he’d started to work with EVH, I just wasn’t aware he’d sold amptweaker. Interesting.

And yeah, that’s a pretty solid bet...unless the amp looks like the old amptweaker pedals...
