Do/would you baby a "relic'd" guitar?

I try to keep all my guitars as pristine as possible in case I ever have to sell any. Having a couple of relics I treat them very well as they turn out to be my most valuable guitars, one very recognisable and needing to look like its brethren is a Rory Gallagher Strat which does have a new slight scratch which is quite noticeably new on the mother of all relics🤣

I’ve just got what’s called a light aged Xotic Tele which has some miles lacquer checking in the nitro finish and I’m looking forward to that aging with play as it’s not recognisable. To all the Tele haters, I’ve been a Superstrat fan all my life and also just never got why anyone would play something so archaic but I love them now for the retro look and tones, must be getting old!

All my guitars are case queens but my ESP Horizon FR SW has some really interesting relic'ing now that it's 12 years old. I like getting dings because you stop caring but that first one is always painful. Would I play one? As in, would I play one that a company made for me? Yes. Would I, as a hobbyist, spend 3k USD + on a relic'd guitar? No.

Precisely why I had it made, it’s an MJT body and a Musikraft neck. The Fender AVRI’s were over $2K used and I do not get along with the 7.25” radius, nor tiny vintage frets, so right out of the gate I’d be buying a guitar that I feel is more expensive than necessary with features I don’t dig.

I went with a 12” radius and med/jumbo SS frets and I can’t put that thing down for very long. I’ve been on this LP honeymoon but picked it up over the weekend and man, it just plays so damn good and the range of sounds I can get out of it is insane. I don’t even prefer guitars that are versatile, I’m fine if they do one thing really well, but when you stumble on a different sound with the Strat it makes me want to venture into it for a bit.
The antique or aged "candy apple red" color passes me off.

Of course you had to have it made from a 3rd party. I was contemplating that. I still want a candy apple red beauty, but the tobacco burst and tortoise shell is a great look. I can do bluesy hard rock and fast stuff on it while the guitar looks the part.

I just want to gush over the EXG and SPC. They are great and add a lot of versatility to the guitar sounds you can create. I don't need a boost or overdrive as the controls cover all of that. I am kind of tempted to get a Clapton Stratocaster just to compare the controls as they should be similar. I want to see how different and how similar they are.

I’m not a fan of the Lace Sensors, I’ve had them in a couple guitars I’ve played over the years and they were just really, really bland pickups. The reds were nice, but everything else was meh. I think that’s just a 20db mid-boost on the EC Strat, isn’t it? It would be interesting to see how they differ.

But yeah man, those boosters are fucking great. Cranking them both with certain amps gets them right into humbucker territory and the range of different tones to be had with them, especially if you’re getting your dirt from stacking drives is insane.

Have you used them with humbuckers?

There is a TBX as well, which has a center detent. Turning down is a normal tone control, and turning up is basically a treble/bass boost. If memory serves, anyways.

My signature says I have. HH (2), HSS (3), SSS (2), and HSH (1) setups.

I don't baby my non-relic'd guitars, so why would I baby a relic?

At this point I have a few that are relic'd. I didn't buy them for the finish, but they sounded great. Kinda like wanting the red guitar, but the blue one sounds better... so I guess I like blue guitars now.
