Sig:X here. I want an Ultra Lead, but the ones with graphical EQs are hard to find. There are a couple of non-EQ versions on Reverb, but I want the EQ.

Fryette will still build them on a per-order basis :metal:

That would be awesome, but given how much the Deliverance IIs cost, I think the Ultra Lead at custom-built prices will remain unobtanium for me. :(

Fair point, however the stuff I'd like to get my hands on never seems to come up for sale in the UK and when/if it does, its stupidly expensive.

There was a CAE 3+ on eBay not too long ago but the seller was asking for like £1,200 to £1,500 from memory . There was a rectifier recording preamp recently that was going for around £800, would have snagged it if I was in a position to but have never seen another for sale other than that :(

Yeah, the CAE 3+, the Bogner Fish and some others have reached cult status and price has raised accordingly.

However, you're not missing much with the Recto preamp unless you have the Mesa 100/100 poweramp to pair it up with.

Maybe you should cheack R&R preamps. They make a version that seems to be a SLO-Recto hybrid, and it sounds awsome in every clip I've heard.

CAE is still making the CAE 3+ with original transformers according to their website. Not sure what the difference is between the 3+ and 3+ SE though. Wow, that thing is $1725.
    - what! the old used 3+ are like $3-$4k now?

I don't think that website has been updated in many years now! On the CAE Facebook page a while ago they were advertising the last batch they'd ever make or something like that, didn't even realise as I avoid all social media where possible (makes it hard to be in a band)!

I think the 3+ was the original design (blackface) that was replaced with the SE (silverface) that many complained sounded worse and more "recto-ish," however I've only ever played the Axe FX II model which I think was the SE so what do I know?

Only really knew about it from Megadeth's rig in the early to mid 90's. All the bands I've ever really got into for a period were rack gear users so I guess that's why I'm gutted it's all gone towards heads and pedals.

FWIW, lately I’ve found I prefer the Russian Recto preamp I have into my 6505+’s power section more than the + preamp, more than the full Recto amps I’ve played and almost as much as my 5150. Recto pre into a 6505/5150 power section is worth it IMO.

Marshall 30th anniversary amp. Doesn't have the compressed sound the DSL and TSL have.
Marshall DBS 7400 bass amp (although I do have one)
    Ibanez Xiphos indeed

Don't forget that they'll also say that they're heavy as hell, yet will foam at the mouth at weight-relief which is obviously designed to prevent Les Pauls from being as heavy as they're notorious for being.

Ah, that would explain the gaffe and oversight on the aforementioned obvious difference.

The mental gymnastics they go through, as far as Gibson is concerned, at least serves as some unintentional humor. You'll also hear cries of "bLasPhEmY" and "sAcriLege" for anything that's not remotely a 22 fret TOM or Bigsby equipped LP weighing a metric ton or whatever else that's been around for too long, and at the same time cries for trying something else that's new under the sun.

Any preamp into a 5150 power section is the shit. 5150s really can't be touched by anything else as a power amp IMO.

I own a Les Paul Axcess with a Floyd Rose, so I guess I'm going to Gibson-elitist hell. ;)

I'm the same way with the LP-style guitars built for me, and one of my ESP guitars from their old custom shop. 24 frets, trems, and one of them is a 7 string. Somewhere in the distance, Mark Agnesi is wailing and grinding teeth over the authenticity.
