LOVE that solo.(couldn’t be anyone BUT Vai, the definition of “sonic fingerprint”)
    Fits right into the music.

I guess I’m not a vai fan. I liked the solo in the record but this is just noise with a vague direction. IMO of course, not into it.

seeing gene hoglan and skeksis was a mad suprise. So badass. I’m curious though, Devin played sixes only, even for the 7 string songs.

Probably doesn't want to have to commission a $15000 Framus to be able to play a 7 in public lol

He already has a handful, why not?
Seriously though, I thought he already had a 7 from them, I may be mistaken. I know Dave Young always just played a six tuned GCGCGC; it worked out fine.

He already has that framus V which is a 7 string and seems they have also done his signature in a 7 string version:

I remember hearing at the end of the stream that Devin doesn't have all of his guitars on hand, and a good portion of them are in Europe.

I wish Vai and Devin would make another album together were they would co-write all the music. Their respective styles blends so well.

    Dev-Nerd to the rescue!

He has said in quite a few guitar-oriented interviews that he doesn't like playing 7-string guitars and never really has been doing so since Deconstruction.

For the lolz he used his Framus 7-string V monster, but more as an act (thing has integrated lasers and smoke machines and whatnot) than as a necessity for Ziltoid stuff and Planet of the Apes.

Live he has long since gave up the bottom range to his second guitar player (non-verbatim quote: "I am only here for the rock-poses and power-chords. The other guy has to do the actual playing").

The general setup for the DTP was him on a 6 string Open-C/B and Dave Young playing a baritone 6-String in what is basically just GCGCGC (or a half step down), so 7-String Open-C without the top E-String and thus just Octaves. Wes Hauch did the same thing for the Empath Vol. II shows. Empath Vol. I didn't really have any 7-string songs, though Markus Reuter and Nathan Navarro offered enough low-end when necessary.

When showcasing his 7-String Framus he said that it is really just for the fans. He probaby won't ever play it live.

Yea i knew that’s how he was doing a lot of shows, didn’t know he didn’t care for 7’s. He’s been playing them forever.

He has been playing them for a while in the Infinity - Alien Era. Starting first because of his whole drug+bi-polar dissorder shenanigans that said to him that he "has to play sevens, because they have a true middle string and that will draw him closer to his infinite pure centered mind".

I can certainly recommend the Infinity Podcast to hear him talking shit about his own past self.

Other than that (and for low-tuned heavy stuff) he never cared for any guitar that has more than 6 strings.
