    Howdy ERG folks.

I've purchased two sets of the EXL140-8s (10-74) and the bottom two strings colors were swapped both times. I didn't realize until after I'd cut the excess off the first time resulting in two strings wasted. Because of that I made sure to check today and it was the same thing again.

Just thought I'd throw that out there for any D'Addario users. Also curious if anyone else has experienced this.

nah, but mixing those 2 strings seem kind of hard, pretty different in thickness how did it even fit the nut

74 and 64 really don't feel or look that different while they're loose imo. Stringing guitars is a pretty auto-piloty kind of thing for me too.

Guitar is an LTD EC1008ET and the nut was able to accommodate. More oddly, the bottom Evertune saddle gave more resistance to the 64 than the second saddle gave to the 74. A little unlikely extra trickery

    Just an update:

I did get in touch with D'Addario to make them aware and they said they'd recently got a few other reports of the same issue so there may have been a problem batch.

The guy I spoke with was very helpful and apologetic about the issue and is sending me out a replacement set so A+ service from them :D

I know I bought some .056 singles (in sealed plastic bags, not the old paper thing) from a local store once a few years ago, and two of them were WAY too small to be a .056, more like a .042. I told D'Addario and they sent me replacements ASAP. Very good customer service.

I once had a problem with some strings and posted it here. I don't even remember what it was, but I think it was even my fault (like ordering the wrong gauge or something). Anyways I got contacted by some guy from D'addario within 10 minutes, offering to send a free set. Great people:agreed:

Yup same thing happened to me, to make it worse I was trying to compare them by eye when they were rolled up and completely forgot the string tapered off at the end so it can fit through the tuner :D great support from D'addario though, had a new set delivered to me really quick even though I only emailed them to ask which is the right string as I'd already had Amazon ship me replacements :p

Same thing just happened to me! The string color coded as .074 fit the unfiled nut but not the one labeled .064. A bit tricky to notice since the diameters aren't that different but once you try to fit the nut it's obvious. Good thing I decided to google this issue, I thought I was going crazy for a moment...

I have to say D'Addario were very helpful

I emailed them through their contact us page on their website. The customer service person I deal with was very nice, activity taking an interest in helping me and arranged to send me replacements for the strings I had to scrap and a new full set.

Never looked at the colors actually. the thickness is definitely noticeable. unless its the ernieballs where they are in separate packets, if you install them one by one without checking, you'll mess up if they messed the order up.

Yeah it's definately noticable now. It was partially my fault for just following the colour codes without thinking about anything else. And also my fault for forgetting that the strings taper off, and then trying to compare the thickness at the taper like an idiot! Thankfully D'addario customer support was good about it and helped me out by telling me the right ones and sending some replacements. A lesson learned and one I won't forget next time! :D

Sounds like a common theme with the NYXL sets. I came across this thread after a search and didn't want to start a new thread. I was putting on a fresh set of NYXL 09|80 8- string set and noticed that the copper and purple colors were swapped on the low strings... the difference between the .60 and .80 is clear. https://imgur.com/a/Y6aTEsQ
