    Hey ppl,

been a while since i've posted anything here.
    here goes though

critique this mix, It's too late for making adjustments since it's already out but i'd like to improve on this for the next time I mix something.

one thing I noticed myself after a little break is that the cymbals got a little buried

if you have any questions let me know.

Sounds pretty darn wonderful to me. This is way above my level.

Here's what I noticed: I found the kick drum to be rather loud for my tastes, while the snare was just a bit loud. Also found the kick sound is a bit plastic - maybe over-compressed? Maybe just a question of taste.

When the strings come in at 2:36, they are very synth-y, rather loud, stereo-narrow and panned center-left. I would have liked to hear them wider and more distant/reverb. Just a taste thing again.

Such a clear mix and sound. The cymbals are fine actually, maybe just a slight notch up in the high shelf (around 10kHz) would be enough. Snare could use some more crack. I like the outro a lot.

This sounds lovely! What was your strategy when it came to balancing your kick and bass?

Thoroughly enjoyed it! I hear nothing negative about in mix.

    Good to hear! :yesway:

Absolutely agree about the snare and the kick.. really struggled with those.
realized the plasticness of the kick after the mix was already being mastered.

2:36 there is a really mono tapechoir layered with a omnisphere string patch.
Agreed also, very synth sounding stuff. I don't have much else than omnisphere and it's not the greatest when it comes to this kind of stuff.

Just by ear really, EQ wise I tried having the kicks body a little bit lower than the body of the bass. Compressed the .... out of the clean bass and then used a sidechained multiband compressor to make space for the kicks.

Very neat proggy composition, execution and mixing/mastering :agreed:

You could be right about the cymbals, but I find this relevant only during the initial high-powered guitar parts - perhaps the guitar should instead be a touch reduced, but then again, the initial part need the guitar to come through, so..
Not all music require [semi]high level cymbals; overall, I find your mix quite well balanced.

Yeah, some sort of exciter on the master could've been pretty cool.
    Next time

    Thanks fellas!

    1 week to release!

Forgot to say that the ending is my favorite part of the song aswell, it might have something to do with the fact that I wrote that part 2016 spring and everthing before that is maybe 3 years old stuff.
