On my V2 the SS distortion channel had a push/pull knob on the gain (? Maybe it was the channel volume?) To get a higher gain sound.

Even so I remember the SS distortion channel with the gain knob pulled out and all the way up being about as much gain as my EVH 5153 50w blue channel with the gain at 9 o'clock.

Speakers and cab matter alot with the V2 as well. I was using my genz benz 212 with k100's and it helped alot getting muscular tones out.

Playing through my v30 loaded vertical 212 I remember it sounding really flat and uninspiring

YMMV all this was a few years ago now though

The Archetype doesn't have that push pull. The SS od channel definitely isn't impressive or high gain ime. I find the tube channel pretty good through v30s, at least on the loose setting. The tight setting is way too anemic imo.
I think the tube channel alone is worth keeping the amp around in my case, but for people trying to have an all in one setup with good cleans and high gain, yeah it's lacking.

Oh shit, maybe that's why I didn't like it with v30's; I always had the tight switch ON.

But yeah, I spent astronomically little time on the clean or SS channels.

Also PS, I emailed GuitarGuitar again. They're still testing the remaining Randalls and plan to relist them. No stated timeframe though.

Honestly my initial excitement is kind of dying down :(

I just saw pics of the Archetype, and it does have it. It's on the Sustain Boost on the Treble control.

yeah my bad. Even with the sustain boost it still doesn't give the ss od channel anywhere near as much gain as the tube channel can get.

Ok I take it back, it can definitely do high gain tones but the level has to be at like noon or higher for it to really kick in. Even then it's still lower gain compared to the tube channel.
for anyone wondering why the vid is gone -I wasn't happy with how the vid turned out, so I'll shoot another one later.

I have some spare time today and I've been playing the EOD88 a lot, heres a quick video I shot, since that choptones demo is pretty much the only decent one I could find.

I used a boost for a lot of the video, details in video description:

New in the room vid of the archetype. Used my kiesel zeus 7 with a thorium in the bridge straight into the amp. Let me emphasize how painfully loud this amp is. IT IS VERRRY FUCKING LOUD. Even with earplugs it was loud as shit.

I know you were saying the clean amp was rather uninspiring, but to me it sounded fucking great there.

Yeah it's fine but compared to my f100, revv or archon's cleans it's meh for me. Then again those amps have exceptional cleans, so it's not a fair comparison lol

Some Randall stuff is back on the website.

My local GC had clearance sale also, so I ordered another cab (Randall RS 412 XXLT with metal grill) and a dirty cheap Trasher 120.
Should have them till end of the week.

I ordered a T2HL. I was playing around with the idea of saving up a bit more for the T2HH but honestly after how much I bitched and struggled with my V2 head...

Plus they're not relisted on the site yet anyway.

I'll keep you guys posted on how it goes. Shipping is slated for the 25th of August.

Anybody know of any wider than average vertical 212's?

Don't wanna go 412 but I think the T2HL is 23-24" wide. My vertical 212 is barely 20" wide

Why don’t you want to go 4x12?
If you do the math it’s twice as good as a 2x12.

Maybe more appropriate for the unpopular opinions thread. But tonally I prefer vertical 212's over 412's.

Not even factoring in weight, cost, etc.

I think they sound better recorded, in the room, in a mix, on a stage.

Horizontal 212's definitely leave much to be desired; but if someone put a gun to my head and said I could only have 1 cab for eternity: vertical 212, and I would miss for nothing.

Maybe a Genz Benz g-flex 2x12 stood vertically? The only vert cabs I know are the Orange PPC, the newer marshall cabs and the harley benton. Alot of guys like the harley benton vertical 2x12 and it comes with v30s for less than like 300 usd. Mesa did make some, but they tend to go for quite a bit and I think Rivera made some but they are hard to find. Engl makes them but finding one stateside would be a challenge.

Since you are in AZ you might be able to find a krank 2x12 for cheap. The carvin legacy 2x12 is pretty damn solid too and so is the peavey classic 2x12.

Yeah the Harley Benton is the one I currently have. I think the Orange vert 212 is a bit wider, but I don't think it's by THAT much.

I do also own a genz benz g Flex 212, never thought about standing it upright tho. Seems a little weird, but maybe I'll try it anyway for shits and giggles.

Maybe a little bit of overhang on either side won't be too bad. I just don't want it to; well: ExcitableFluffyArchaeopteryx-max-1mb.gif

I got a replacement for the dud 667 and it was good while it lasted but now the volume has dropped to an almost inaudible level. I think these amps were possibly sitting dormant in the warehouse too long.

That actually sounds like a tube issue...
