I've always gotten the impression that the members of Slipknot don't wanna be in Slipknot..it's a paycheck that's bigger than anything else they have going on so they do it. I know there was a period where they were all sick of each other and maybe that's just what's making me think that.

Maybe it's like Wes Borland said about Limp Bizkit?

"I went back to Limp Bizkit because it felt like I couldn’t get it out of my blood. I basically had Limp Bizkit AIDS and was infected. No matter what I did, that was me."

Or it's the fat paycheck.

I haven't listened to this band since about 2004. If it wasn't for the MT to ESP shenanigans a while back I honestly don't think I'd remember they existed.

I think your referencing Clown with his wife having health issues. About a day or 2 ago he announced he wouldn't be at the upcoming shows because of it but he isn't leaving the band. Clown kind of IS the band at least from a visual/marketing standpoint. Craig "leaving" is weird but it could all be a total stunt and just another thing to drum up interest and further the brand that is Slipknot. I almost look at Slipknot like pro wrestling that intertwines scripted stuff with real life to blur the lines a little. Maybe Craig didn't leave and he's reintroducing himself with a new character? Maybe he really did leave because of touring life? I don't know.

I think this ends with a Craig Jones vs Craig Jones match.

Well, I'm pretty sure they were desperate to get out of their contract, and the recording process for the last couple of records.... Wasn't the most positive experience.

I dig a good amount of Slipknot’s “sellout” music and have dug them for quite a while, but I barely even know what this dude’s role in the band was. I know he did samples/keys, but I don’t think I’d be able to pick out what Sid is doing and what this dude was doing.

I know their whole trip has been being 9 dudes, but outside of the live aesthetic they‘d sound just the same if they went out as a 6-piece and gave Sid a baseball bat and a keg, I’d imagine.

You could cut out legitimately half the band and I probably wouldn't notice, but I haven't really paid attention to them since "Psychosocial" so what do I know to begin with?

guys... I guess the cats kinda outta the bag... and there's no easy way to say this. I suppose I should've told all of you first, but...

... I'm the new keyboardist for Slipknot

I know, I know "but chappy, dont even play keyboards". And that's 100% true...

But anyway, I know the band isn't handling breaking this news well. I've been meaning to tell them that they gotta get their act together, but they haven't been returning my emails, weirdly.

Phew, feels good to get that off my chest. Like a huge weight has been lifted

Self-titled is sic (pun intended) but for me, Iowa was always their peak, probably because it was the album I found them through.
Iowa had their best production and tone, IMO, sounding the biggest and heaviest. Also both of those two records were angry as all hell. I do NOT like nu-metal at all except for those first two Slipknot records due to pure energy and the type of sound they had.

100%

I found Slipknot just after the first album, like most young kids getting in to the metal scene, i was pretty blown away by the whole appearance and sound. I had those first two albums and listened to them on a regular basis between ages 11-14ish?

I grew out of the nu-metal stuff faster than it arrived but those first two Slipknot albums are still a masterclass in sound design. Those two albums are when Craig and Sid's roles can be clearly determined in my opinion. I enjoy sound design/ambience etc and i reference some of the sample laden, darker Slipknot songs of that era for idea's

I was laying in bed with my girlfriend at the time and we were watching Conan O'Brien. Well, he introduced Slipknot and they came out and I lost my fucking mind.

I went out and bought the CD the next day with her and she was not into metal IN THE LEAST, but kind of liked the song "Spit it Out".

I was pretty excited for Iowa, but was somewhat disappointed. Vol 3 was pretty good, and I bought All Hope is Gone, but I just kind of lost track of them after that until We Are Not Your Kind came out, and I thought that one was great.

That's cool and all, but did you tune in to see Slipnutz?

My friend told me about this in middle school at our bus stop over a morning toke and I legitimately thought he was making this shit up. I owe ol' Patrick a formal culinary apology after thissun, dutes.

Trojan pie crust man sux, I want Craig back,

Slipknot - Slipknot was my favorite album.

Everything else went downhill from there in my opinion.
I thought Iowa was miles ahead of self-titled. But I didn't like anything after vol 3, and I didn't like all of Vol 3 either.

There was some cool ideas/writing on Vol. 3, but the production killed that album for me. It just sounds so strange. I think it would have gotten a lot more love and recognition if it has been made with the same production as Iowa.

You've just perfectly explained exactly why I didn't like some of Vol 3 but had no idea why. That's exactly it! Totally agree. I bought all 3 albums but no more after that.

They should really hand it up at this point. Ever since loosing Joey and Paul, who were big contributors to songwriting, their music is basically on life support. But I guess that's just how big cash cows go, these bands are essentially like the Fast and Furious of the metal world.
