Who the hell other than Christopher Lee can put-out a metal cover of a song from the musical "Man of La Mancha" to commemorate his 92nd birthday?

    OK. I still have time.

While the above comments are true, it still doesn't make him any less metal :metal:

I'd say "Fight Me!", but I doubt either of you are old enough to drive. That said, I am impressed you remember things from when you were 3rd grade.

The man was also (supposedly) the inspiration for James Bond. Reading about him is fascinating and very rewarding. He lived quite the life.

This is a popular factoid, but seems to be just that--an internet myth.

Wikipedia keeps a rather exhaustive list of Ian Fleming's inspirations for James Bond. Despite this, Christopher Lee is not mentioned anywhere--even as a speculative influence. If you check Christopher Lee's wikipedia page, it does not make the claim that he was the basis for James Bond either, although it does provide further insight into his association with Ian Fleming.

The short of it is that Christopher Lee and Ian Fleming were not related by blood. Christopher Lee's mother, Estelle, married Ian Fleming's uncle sometime after Lee's 6th birthday (exactly when, I don't know); however, Estelle had separated from him by the time Lee had turned 17. That would have been in 1939, and thus before WWII, itself being the creative wellspring for so many features of Fleming's novels.

Much later in life, Fleming had allegedly offered Christopher Lee the part of Dr. No in the 1962 film of the same name, but the producers had cast Joseph Wiseman instead. More than a decade later, in 1974, Lee was cast as the villain in another Bond film, the Man with the Golden Gun. However, Christopher Lee was never offered the role of James Bond so far as I can tell, nor was he ever acknowledged as a major influence for the character, for which there's so many other compelling examples linked above.

To put it plainly, Christopher Lee lived an amazing life that--for whatever reason--the Internet latched onto like he was the Dos Equis man or Chuck Norris. It helped that Christopher Lee was not shy about name-dropping and sharing details about his high society connections (which started from an early age, given his mother was a countess and he remained in those circles for a time, eventually courting the daughter of a Swedish count while in his 30s). Over time, his life story became something of a meme and accreted additional features along the way, including the idea that he was the 'real James Bond' through virtue of his WWII military service and connections to Ian Fleming. I don't think this claim has much basis in fact beyond that, however.

Old enough to drive, but not quite old enough to laugh at my own jokes. I'll be your age in about 13 years.

Gotcha beat by about a decade.
Dude, all we have to go by are your posts, and based on the few I've seen, the assumption that I've been on the forum longer than you've been alive is valid.
Pot...Kettle...Black Lighten-up sonny, life is to short and you're too young to be a curmudgeon.
