AVGN did shit on it but I believe James and Mike did a playthough that did not shit on it. The complexity of the game did make for an entertaining Nerd episode.

I always had a soft spot for the original. Granted, it was obtuse in places, but what has seemingly been lost to time is that, oh so conveniently, its release was accompanied by a cover-feature in Nintendo Power which IIRC told you everything needed. Kind of a hustle, that was.

To be honest, AVGN shit on most of my childhood. Being raised strict Baptist, those Bible Games were the only NES games I could play with the kids from school, and they really weren't that bad. The Noah's Ark one where you had to go pick up cattle and oxen over your head and carry them to the ark was actually a ton of fun for a 9 year old kid, and the Moses one where you solved spatial puzzles was quite unique for me.

But even the games I had that were more taboo were games like Zelda II, Silver Surfer, Bart vs. the Space Mutants, Mega Man (the first one), Beetlejuice, X-Men, and Paperboy. It seemed like all of them were games that AVGN shit on at some point. Out of those, I thought they were all quite a bit of fun, except maybe X-Men, which was a clear disappointment. Of course, my favourite NES titles would be Crystalis, Dragon Warrior III, the original Legend of Zelda, Startropics, and Super Mario 3. I was involved in a remake of Crystalis many years ago, but the main person developing it ghosted everyone about 3 months into it. Somewhere, maybe, I still have a ton of assets on a thumb drive (sprites, tiles, midi files, maybe one of the game maps). It just seemed like no one involved realized just how much work it was going to be - in most cases, in general, and in the cases of people like me, because everyone else was flaking out and leaving the work to be done by yours truly. I had half a mind to try to take it over, but, being that it would be a completely thankless hobby that required too much time and work and would provide virtually no reward, I just let it die.

It was around that time that I did a non-upscaled fan-remake of Number Munchers, a PC game where you had to eat numbers that properly solved equations and avoided enemies called "Troggles." The troggles were kind of like slow-moving Pac-Man ghosts, in that they had different personalities with how they cornered the player on the screen. I don't think even a single one of my friends ever tried it. Maybe if I can find it a year or two from now, I'll see if I can get my son to play it.

Awesome! Love CVII.....I've always been a HUGE Castlevania fan in general. Symphony of the Night has always been my favorite game from my favorite franchise. I actually covered one of the themed songs about 10 years ago...

I loved Castlevania II! Sure, there are a lot of annoying things in the NES version, but I never understood all of the hate from AVGN et al.

Remastering old games is a pretty thankless job. But thanks! I'd like to try this. What did you use to make this?
Thanks dude! I use a program called Clickteam Fusion 2.5+. It was originally called Multimedia Fusion a few years back. They have free versions to toy around with as well.

As a longtime Castlevania fan (since I got an NES in 1988, and I and II were even some of my first games), gotta say, this looks awesome. And think a lot of the tweaks and changes you did here were smart. totally looking forward to playin' this.

UPDATE;

I ran the full game through my gaming PC, since this would be a good test to see how the game responds to another PC. I found some issues along the way, thankfully very VERY simple ones and NOTHING game breaking. I took note of each issue as i found them.

Yesterday, i knocked out a good majority of them. Just a few minutes ago, i completely wiped them all out. The game (as i play it or have found) is bug free :eek:

At the moment, it is exclusive to using a gamepad, any xbox compatible/or recognized for xbox 360 drivers is fully compatible.

I'll be compiling all the emails i got for beta testers (i have a metric fuck ton to dig through) and i'll be sending it out tomorrow for the official testing.

Things to do while i wait on tester feedback;
implement fully independent keyboard/gamepad support
create "bad ending" fmv
update "good ending" fmv text scroll to make more legible
remix a handful of tracks; i've gotten even better sounds since the start of this so there are a few that need some attention haha

I'll make sure to keep you folks posted. 8)
