With the pandemic, guitar players buying basses, and ERB's being more widely adopted, I think it would help the group. I saw the idea pitched earlier, but circumstances were different then.

I go on talkbass, but they are mostly bass players. There isn't a forum for ERG players who bought a bass and don't want to talk about traditional basses, finding any info is a struggle, and it would be cool to have a forum to share ERB specific info/tips.

Can you do an ERB forum... Please???

Looking at how slow the bass section is, I don't think splitting it up is really necessary. Just like we don't have separate subs for acoustic and electric drums because there are like three posts a year in there and they're all about programming.

But if you really want it, @Alex is the one to ask.

I bought a Squier bass and already made my obligatory post for the year.

Oh wait… this makes it two posts. :)

I specifically don't post information about my 8+ string basses here because there is no extended range bass section. I can't be the only one that feels this way

Same here, I have 2 ERB's, and I generally post in talkbass, but I'm a guitar player first (playing 7 string's since 98) and this forum seems more appropriate for people like me, particularly with the extended range implication.

Post away guys. If you build up enough of a user group that it needs it's own sub, I'm sure Alex will make one.

Be the change.

What's your definition of an extended range bass?
- Fanned Fret?
- Scale length > 37"?
- Has more than 6 strings?

I'd say the sevenstring forums are primarily for guitar players and we have talkbass or gearspace for in depth bass discussions. I dabble in bass but think of myself primarily as a guitar player.

I think megathread is the way to go. I'm primarily a bassist but I'm here for guitar stuff since it's more oriented with heavier genres of music and of course, 7 string guitars.

@BeyondAntares I'd say 5 strings and beyond as well as the inclusion of extended scale basses. There's people playing 4 string basses at F0 and lower as well. It's kind of broad as far as what you can do with bass these days.

Why shouldn't you post extrended range bass stuff here? I mean: where even is the border between "normal" basses and "extended range"? isn't a 5-string technically an extended range bass already?

I'm a bassist mainly nowadays, used to be a guitarist back in the days and still use this forum because I still feel connected to it from back in the day when I played 7-string guitars almost exclusively.
And in the spirit of this place, I really don't see any reason NOT to post stuff about extended range basses in here.

In 2019, in the Feedback & Suggestions subforum, i suggested a new subforum for ERB, but soon after thought there would not be enough activity to justify this.

So i then made another thread to suggest altering the bass guitar subforum title or description text to mention ERB, and i will suggest that again now.

I don't understand the thinking of "if you build it, they will come", as if by just having a new sub or renaming a current one will draw in the ERB disporia.

Most folks find this place from content they find via web search.

Without content, there is nothing to find, and nothing to really stir discussion, or more importantly, facilitate community.

So if you want ERB content you need to: talk about, discuss, buy, and share ERBs. Not lament the forum header that no one really cares about anyway.

When the ERG sub was created it was because an entire other forum was merged into this one. No one just created a new forum header and it magically got traction, a bunch of folks were just told to type in a new URL.

i really thought my earlier post was very obviously sarcastic.
If you were really here to party, owning and posting about multiple 8+ string basses would be a great start...

Admitting your previous sarcasm, on the other hand, kills the suspense and buzz.

Nah i'm not lamenting :) I only make my gentle suggestion because it would be so quick and easy to do, and because it is suitable to mention ERB in this extended range guitar forum.
Also, forgot to write: Please no ERB megathread, content gets lost, and more difficult to search for, in these.
