I was never into Lincoln Park, frankly I was already an old, gatekeeping asshole when they first showed up, but any extreme form of music needs those icebreaker bands, IMO. In my day, it was the hair bands, and if it wasn't for the Bon Jovis and Warrants of my youth, I likely wouldn't have landed on the Cannibal Corpses and Morbid Angels a half-decade later. So, I think slagging on bands like that comes off as needlessly pretentious, whether you actually like them or not.

This is like tabloid headline trash that he is saying to stay relevant. And I guess it's working, because here we are.

Meanwhile, Hybrid Theory has sold more copies/downloads/whatever alone than all of Fear Factory's albums combined.

Hybrid Theory is one of the greatest, highest-selling albums of all time. And I think it still might be the "highest selling debut for a band" of all time, unless it has been dethroned in recent years while I've been out of the loop with regards to modern "music" (notice those quotation marks).

I’ve no idea if it’s true, but it’s still kinda funny...

    I’ll see myself out ;)

    Surprisingly it's only #10 at 10 mil. #1 is GnR's AFD.

    https://www.therichest.com/entertainment/top-10-best-selling-debut-albums-in-us-history/

FWIW, it's the only album released in 2000 (or later) that made this list. The closest one is Brittney Spears which released in 1998 with 14 million copies. But still, a "metal" (fuck it they're still metal to me suck my dick) album even reaching the top 10 is insane.

Also I think we talked about it before in another thread, but a debut album sounding THAT fucking good, by a nu metal band of all bands... Is fucking bonkers.

well said. I bought HT when it came out and remember loving parts of it and hating parts of it initially. Of course after a few more spins I was hooked.

they carved out their own little niche in the nu metal genre and it just worked.

I'd be fine with this morphing into a LP lovefest thread, because I absolutely love them. They were the best thing I'd heard in years when they came out, and they're still on my playlist (including the much maligned last album). No shade against FF, but if LP is for kids, then I'm a big-ass kid.

This is the first list I've ever seen where (of all the albums on the list) the #1 album should actually be in the #1 spot.

Crazy that "Yourself or Someone Like You" by Matchbox 20 sold 12 million copies(I bought it when I was 10-12 years old) but it only sold 600 copies in the first week. And it was their first album..

    Shut the fuck up Burton.

    And I don't even like nu-metal.

Never got into Linkin Park, but didn’t hate them. Even didn’t mind a few of their songs.

    B. Bell needs to quit while he’s ahead (and he’s not even ahead).

That's a good coincidence, I used to think of Fear Factory as Meshuggah for kids. Specifically Demanufacture/Obsolete/Digimortal vs Chaosphere/DEI.

I think anyone telling anyone else that certain music is for certain people is simply a fucking dumbass.
