That song was a lot better when I was 23.
Man, what the hell? I was expecting him to mumble and OH YEAH! his way through the original lyrics, not this psychotic rambling about lamborghinis. I don't know if that would have been better or worse, though.
This is already old news to me and I've already heard the outrage. It also got me thinking they should've toured with Green Day again instead so they can have another Pop Revolution tour, they already have Neck Deep as their supporting band so that would've made a killer lineup.
And say whatever you want about Mark, Travis, and Matt, but at least they're still seeing themselves to everyone as musicians instead of whatever the hell in his deep-friend mind Tom is trying to do.
With how like the album the guitars and whatnot sound the horrendous vocals are extra off putting.
I *just* watched it.
That was a mistake.
Couldn't make it past the first chorus
Blink w/ Tom > Box Car Racer > Angels & Airwaves > Tom's UFO show on the History Channel > Blink w/o Tom
I deal in facts - not opinions.
...there's a UFO show, too???
I've always felt that way, too. These guys have been singing about weiners for decades now. I get it pays the bills, but at some point you would think one of them would say "hey fellas, maybe we're too old for this?"
Time to follow the Backstreet Boys into cuntry music or something
What happened to his voice. ouch.
Something like this?
I just heard they were trying to survive the boy band death mark of the midlife crisis by getting onto country radio... and frankly couldn't help but be a little impressed by such a sensible career move.
This tour/'music'-video makes no sense what so ever. Oh well, 14 year old me is still happy I saw them live in 2001. Loved the self-titled album (thought it was actually a cool way for them to mature and explore some new territory). Then it all went to hell. They were never the same again. If I am honest, I can say I sort of enjoyed the Dogs Eating Dogs ep (except that rapping part that made no sense in the middle of that song)...
Insert Danny Glover "I'm getting too old for this shit" gif here.
Still not as bad as Fall Out Boy with Courtney Love.
And at least Lil Wayne didn't try to play the guitar again.
Did you really leave out +44 in this? When Your Heart Stops Beating proved that Mark and Travis can still put out quality music without Tom.
Also Mark's new project with Alex Gaskarth from All Time Low, Simple Creatures, is pretty good. I hated their first single (Drug) at first but Adrenaline got me hooked into them. I thought the EP was better than Blame It On My Youth, which was a pretty bad pop single for Blink's upcoming album.
The new clip Mark posted on Twitter actually sounds like Blink so I'm excited for this song and also the album if there are more songs like this.
Travis Barker. He has a good relationship with the hip hop community and put out a solo album of him drumming to various rappers.
For the long hiatus they had between the self-titled album and Neighborhoods (which actually becomes better the older it gets), the fallout was mostly coming from Tom, who was having a drug addiction at the time and wanted to started AvA. I remember reading that some songs on AvA's debut album were meant to be new Blink songs, including The Adventure.
I get that Travis has big connections to hip hop. He kind of bridged that gap with The Transplants, which I enjoyed mostly. But Blink-182 as a whole never had that, so it was just such a strange departure. Largely at this point, I don't listen to pop-punk at all anymore even though blink was my favorite band for years. Except for when my son wants to throw on California when we are driving. But that's about the extent of it.
I guess largely, I feel that the self-titled album aged well due to its themes being largely more mature, or at least written from a more mature point of view. Listening to Enema or even ToYPAJ is tough. It all feels like its from a life time ago. Just my opinion, YMMV. Growing up sucks...
I never said that Mark and Travis can't put out quality music anymore. I love +44 and Simple Creatures is pretty solid as well. That said, Blink 182 without Tom has been weak sauce. California (and California Deluxe) is so friggin mediocre. Blame It On My Youth is flat out terrible and hopefully is not the best tune from the next album or they are in a terrible spot. Blink 182 needs Tom. Without him, I wish they would have continued +44 rather than going down the road again with Matt (who I love in AT, but find useless in Blink).
The new song is out, way shorter than I expected but I really like it. I'm glad it isn't a joke song because the length's short enough to be one.
