Testament's was this year?!!! I guess it really has been a long year.

    A couple I forgot about:
    Kataklysm- unconquered
    Judge minos- keeper of imbalance

If I can think of any I'll add another post

Aether Realm - Redneck Vikings from Hell

While it was a noticeable change in sound and songwriting in a few areas it was still Aether Realm at its core. This track was a stand out for me the way it peaks and drops. 3:00 is the band at their best. Intense, climactic and huge sounding.

in runner up was Protest the Hero - Palimpsest

I have to admire Rody so much to be able to recover and come back after his vocal troubles. You can hear him struggling in places but it’s got this raw natural sound that is sorely missing from modern metal. 3:50 in this song might be the best protest the hero moment ever. I had this song on repeat for days.

Best music video has to go to Eskimo Callboy:

This guys quickly turned into my new favourite band and I’ve listened to almost nothing else the last 4-5 months. It’s like born of Osiris, backstreet boys, Linkin park and Skrillex has a baby. The way you have no idea where a song is going to go and how many styles are going to be mixed up is fascinating. I’ve never come across a band that have such a wide sound. Shame their original singer/songwriter quit but their new EP has rocketed them to a new level of popularity.

Been absolutely enamored with "I Let It In and It Took Everything".

Loathe really upped the ante, and as someone said, released the best Deftones album this year - haha. Jokes aside, this album is the "Diamond Eyes" for this generation. My soul yearns to see this album performed live. Tears will fall, and crash around me.

Boundaries - Your Receding Warmth , a close second. Makes me want to throw chairs, whirlwind kick, and yeah..

I'm having a hard time coming up with many metal albums I'd rank super high. I liked the new Body Count and Midnight albums. The new Of Feather and Bone was cool too.

These are the ones I actually listened to the most and like the best (roughly in order):
    J Balvin - Colores
    Taylor Swift - Folklore
Haim - Women in Music Pt. 3
    Chris Brown & Young Thug - Slime & B
    Lil Baby - My Turn
    Dua Lipa - Future Nostalgia

New music for me to check out! Thanks!
Hey, off-topic, but did you try out Bone Crew? Different vibe altogether but I thought they really knocked it out of the park with their EP.

Holy shit, It Comes In Waves was released in 2019. I haven’t listened to Slow Decay. I’m out of touch with the 2020 music scene!

I’m really enjoying Ohms still, so that’s my nomination.

Crazy, to me this has been their best release since Nocturnal.

I guess my #1 2020 would have to be Code Orange - Underneath.

Plenty of great releases this year as always. Rather than make a big list, I'll just say one:

Napalm Death - Throes Of Joy In The Jaws Of Defeatism

The best way to describe it is Post-Grindcore. Nonetheless, the entire album is an amazing combination of tones, moods, and sounds. Even more impressive is that it's coming from a band that's been around for almost 40 years at this point. Definitely my favorite extreme music release this year.

I really only listened to Haken's Virus this year as far as new music goes and I really love that album, but my brother tells me the new Kylie album is fantastic and he only recommends good music.

I was really hyped for this record too, and I've just not been able to gel with it at all. There was nothing memorable about it, and I didn't feel like there was any standout tracks. One of their weaker records for me unfortunately.

I'm enough of a dork that I keep a spreadsheet with upcoming release, and as I purchase albums I move them to a section at the bottom. There is a separate section for my favorites of the year, I didn't even realize but I had like 40 albums there. No way I can pick just one, couldn't even get it to ten. So I'll skirt the "rules" of the thread like others and pick my favorite with 11 honorable mentions. :)

    AOTY:
    Havukruunu - Uinuos Syömein Sota

    Honorable mentions:
    Elder - Omens
    Ulthar - Providence
Wormhole - The Weakest Among Us
Temple of Void - The World That Was
    Enslaved - Utgard
Wayfarer - A Romance With Violence
    Wytch Hazel - III: Pentecost
    Eternal Champion - Ravening Iron
    Black Curse - Endless Wound
    Lantern - Dimensions
    Sturgill Simpson - Cuttin' Grass

Came here to say my definitive AOTY was split two ways, but I didn't even know there was a new Mors and now my night will be raging with it.

    That said;
    Misery Signals - Ultraviolet
    Gaerea - Limbo

Edit: I forgot END's Splinters came out in this decade of a year. Absence is my jam.
