Pretty much what the title asks : what are some bands where the guitarists play in drop A ? I mean specifically AEADGBE on a 7 or AEADF#B on a 6, no alternate tunings. No deathcore, since I don't care about that genre. I know Nile does. Other than that, I'm kinda clueless. I know Amon Amarth have a song in drop A, maybe more. But yeah, I'd just want more non-deathcore bands who use that tuning. Pretty much irrelevant story : so I got a 7-string years back, and I haven't used it in quite a long time. It's an Ibanez RG827Z. I think I just treated it wrong. I put it in drop A first back then, but with relatively big strings, and it was just too much for that trem system. I put it in drop Ab and the seventh string just felt weird, so I tuned it to Bb standard, but it's not set up properly for that (the thumbwheel is maxed out one way and the trem still isn't flat), so it just felt weird to play and I kinda fell out of love for it. I've been blaming it on the pickups or the neck profile, but... cheap pickups, low tuning, HUGE Elixir strings (that's a 68 for the low Bb). I didn't give it a fair chance. I want to rehabilitate the guitar, see if I can actually enjoy it. I don't listen to much 7-string music, I bought it mostly out of curiosity at the time. I'm currently debating whether I set it up (with floppy enough strings to be playable) in standard B or in drop A. I barely use dropped tunings on sixes, so having the drop-tuned 7 would give me the 6 strings I'm used to, plus a drop-tuned section to experiment and mess with. I could definitely find enough bands who use their sevens in standard B tuning to keep myself busy, it's just for the drop A stuff that I need some help. If I find enough drop A stuff that seems fun to learn and practice, I'll probably go drop A. Else, B standard. Thanks for your input !
