Not sure if something's different with the EU lineups of the usual suspects, but I still see a lot more trem models than hardtails. Which totally pisses me off, by the way. I have around 15 (electric) guitars and only one with a trem - which I never play. And if I play it, I don't use the trem...

I have four electric guitars of which two are seven strings. All four have a Floyd Rose. It's alive and well in my universe.

I blame the 0-1-0 crowd for the demise of the trem.

I think the reason why people say Floyds are hard to maintain is because most of their experiences come from cheaper locking trems that are more prone to tuning instability. I was one of those people since I had a Jackson with a licensed bridge and it was a pain to lock the strings and tune them properly. I'd be interested to get another guitar with a Floyd if it's a higher quality one.

Another reason why people don't want to bother with them, it's not as simple as pulling the strings up from the bridge and wrapping them around the tuners. The only reason people here say it's easy is because they're used to it. A casual acoustic guitarist would have a much easier time restringing a fixed bridge guitar than one with a Floyd.

I vote for a thread title change.

    Whammy Obsolete? Erased? Extinct?

I seriously hate Floyds. They've been obsolete for me for ages. :D
