any other fans of this awesome band? when i listen to them its like im on a mind trip.
I love them. I personally like The Sham Mirrors the most, although Vortex does a fantastic job on Sideshow Symphonies.
Starcrossed made me start playing Piano.
The Sham Mirrors is a cool album.
Absolutely LOVE The Sham Mirrors. Didn't think any of the other albums really compared though. But it's been awhile since I listened to them... so...
holy shit this is awesome!!
Yep, amazing band. Their last album wasn't that great though, sadly.
There is no band I miss more than Arcturus. The wikipedia page talks of a possible reunion, but I didn't see anything in the references.
Has anyone heard anything about it?
Has anyone found a remotely similar band?
I loved the transformation between each album. Although Sideshow seemed like the weak, lost, despondent, marooned cousin of Sham, it was still pretty enjoyable.
While we're posting faves, Asperia and Masquerade had their moments but I always think of Sham, including the 3:50-4:15 part here:
Arcturus - Radical Cut
The entire album is full of awesomeness at every turn, but I always think of the integration of Ihsahn's scream as one of the best climaxes of any song.
I love Du Nordavind! Sideshow was good but vortex kinda gets (blasphemy) old on here singing the whole time.
Of topic but anyone like the new Borknagar?
I like the new borknagar
Love 'em, and that song in particular.
Love the sham mirrors, shideshow symphonies on the other hand was rather boring and poor.
Pretty much what everyone's said- great band, especially on The Sham Mirrors. Hellhammer is IMO one of the top metal drummers around.
yup very good band
I just spun 'Sham Mirrors' again yesterday and was a little taken aback by how rough it sounded around the edges at times (more so than I recall), but I still dig it quite a lot. That was essentially Garm's peak as a vocalist, I think, and he always fit the band better than the sometimes atonal Vortex.
'Radical Cut' is a killer track, featuring Ihsahn on vocals, and utilizing a bit of saxophone years before Ihsahn did the same on his new solo album. Maybe inspiration?
I wouldn't call Wind's and Solefald similar, but there is a hint of influence I think. Both bands have some sort of Norwegian roots and Wind's share the same drummer and guitarist.
There is also Vulture Industries. You can hear that they try to sound like Arcturus.
and some of the Isahn tracks have some avant-guardish flavour
while were on the subject, just as enjoyable!
