Thinking bout pulling the trigger on a EMG Daemonum pickup for a guitar I got tuned to drop B. I've been trying to find pickups that fit the guitar and so far... eehhh? Also thinking about ditching the H-S-S setup and going either H-H or just single H lol.
I'd go H-S but I found I don't like the sound of single coils in the neck as much as I used to. I wish EMG would make some humbucker-sized single coils. You think it would be easy since single-coil rails are so common.

There was some jazz master type prototypes floating around but no proper p90s.
No idea why.
They'd probably be low key one of the best on the market too if they made them.

You just gotta know how to ask. Do you need a middle and neck single coil for another guitar? Or middle single and neck humbucker? Ask for it as if it is for one guitar.

I was thinking about that last night after I posted the message lol. EMG is pretty good with sending you stuff if you email them. I'll think about it, but idk how I feel about a "smoother" EMG 81. I'm actually in the minority of people that feels like it needs to be more aggressive lol

I am thinking of getting a Fat 55 set and Maverick Five set. Not sure if I want to do HSH or HSS. I plan to put them in my tobacco sunburst Stratocaster with tortoiseshell pickguard.
The rpc adds some high end that I feel is missing in the emg humbuckers compared to passives.
I would not add extra mids to an emg humbucker. Emg singles? Hell yeah!

Emg single coils are stacked humbuckers technically, but I know what you mean.
Perhaps look into the TX series? I have a set of 57/66tws.
When I was Planning my latest warmoth build, I knew I wanted to try emgs (I went 25 years avoiding them due to the internet lore of sterility and how they make all guitars sound the same), but which ones?. Do I HH? HSS? SSS? Which tone options?
I truly have no preference for singles or buckers, so my choices were either TWs or singles with the spc circuit.
The difference in tone when I pull the pots up is significant. It's a better solution than splitting a passive, iMO.
Am I 100% happy with them overall? I'm still not sure. Sometimes I wish the humbucker mode had more high-end detail I guess, but then I switch to single coil mode......
I will say this though: I reach for the emg equipped guitar 90% of the time.
I will also add that the 57/66s in a short scale warmoth vip sound eerily similar to the breeds I have in my rg921. The same full mids/chopped high end thing is there in both. The emg 57 maybe has more low mids.
Emg does the 81,89,57, and 66 in TWs.

He means something more like a single coil sized humbucker. Jazz corrected it earlier. Something like a Duncan Hot Rails. They offer one like this, but it is a passive.
I strayed again, and now I'm back (again). I honestly don't know why I keep doing this to myself when the 57 in the bridge and SAV in the neck give me everything I want (yes, I like the compression!).
No matter how much I spend on pickups, it's not like I'm not going to use an OD or EQ pedal in front of the amp anyway. Might as well save some money as EMGs are one of the most affordable brands in the UK, plus reap the benefits of not being grounded to my guitar. I don't use volume or tone knobs either, so not having to solder resistors in the circuit as with passive pickups is a bonus too.

New learnings for me: EMG sells B stock on their Reverb store. Got a "new" B stock 57 for my SL1 for $65. Only issue is some scuffing on the top that you'd only notice under intense scrutiny.
They have some decent deals, I picked up B stock 81-8XH for like $63 shipped. It did have a little damage on the leg near the brass threaded part, but it's pretty minor.
I got that then almost immediately got a set of Blackout 8's so the EMG will have to wait lol

Strangely, the 57 is ever so slightly larger than the 85X in my SL1 and does not fit in the route. It has pickup rings, so you could make it fit but I don't have the patience for this right now. Back to the 85X it is.
I was switching to it due to an annoying "chirp" in palm muted rhythms with the 85X. Have any of you had this issue with the 85X or other X series EMGs?

Funny, one of the reasons I like the 57 is that it has a sort of stringy sound on the attack as opposed to the 81 which is much less lively in that part of the frequency spectrum.
Not so sure if this is "chirp" but definitely has more upper frequency activity than the 85. Only owned the 85X briefly so don't remember it much.
