Wasn't Kerry King of Slayer MegaDave's other guitarist at one point in time? I'm actually surprised that Kiko Loureiro has survived this long in the band! It's a paycheque I guess. It's always a revolving door of band members with MegaDave.
Who are your favourite replacement guitarists that Megadeth has had after the LEGENDARY Marty Friedman was fired? Mine was definitely Glen Drover and Chris Broderick! Those dudes can play!

I would have thought the same thing back when I was 15 years old. But you gotta remember, Dave is older, has become a born-again christian, and his band is run like a giant business. It extends beyond the music as he has lots of product and endorsements linked to his and his bands name and image. Ellefson fucked up royally and Dave made the smart business decision to cut ties. Megadeth did fine without Jr before, and they'll be fine without him going forward. In many ways, what he did is the least riskiest approach to the kind of situation...to be associated with scandal at this point in his life just isn't worth the headache.
Scandal? For who? This is the kind of thing kids think is a big deal. If Mustain's religion is a factor then he's a fucking idiot (surprise surprise).
It's 2022..no one finds this shocking. People made jokes and moved on. If Peewee Herman can get arrested for whacking off in a porn theater and suspected of having kiddie porn, then still have a career and a fanbase who loves him, I think Megadeth could survive a blip in the news that people stopped caring about 5 min after it happened.
Then again Mustaine has the reputation of being a nutjob so while the paycheck is nice Ellefson probably is better off.

A lot of kids go to Megadeth shows. If you were to google David Ellefson's name versus Dave Mustaines, only one of them is gonna result in news stories with pics and videos of a guy jerking off. You think Pee Wee's career would have been better off without the arrest and accusations?

I still think Dave still doesn't like Ellefson and just wanted an excuse to dump him. I still remember interviews where Dave just saw him as a hired hand.

I grew up watching pee wee's playhouse and got into megadeth when I was in middle school in the early 90s. When pee wee was arrested, I don't think I could firmly understand what happened at the time (I was 8 or 9 years old), but as soon as it happened, he was essentially canceled. It's a different age today with the internet being a few clicks away from beholding anything you desire. Certainly, kids will learn about it one way or another well before they're old enough to understand, but my point is that Dave Mustaine doesn't want to have to have a talk to his grandchildren about masturbation when they google David Ellefson. You might not find the subject controversial and blow it off not a big deal, but you also have to view it from a business perspective where image and reputation do matter, even if you're in a heavy metal band.
Dude you were a kid decades ago. Kids have access to the internet and they aren't dumb. I knew what masturbation was at 8 years old. Some people have parents that actually talk to them....and they have internet access. Sex is a fingertouch away on the web and it's everywhere. Kids know all the damn words to WAP. Some old man doing a natural thing isn't going to send a kid into some horrible tailspin. It'll be fine. Some bassists lil tallywhacker isn't gonna be the decline of civilization
It's not, but it will mean less money opportunities for Mega-Dave, so Ellefson's gotta go.

I would have to think that the discussion of masturbation and children and sex is irrelevant here. I’ll give you a dollar for every person under 40 who’s even heard of Megadeth. Who is this theoretical group of people that Dave either owes an explanation to but doesn’t want to give one or is withholding their money just because of some bass player?

But the headlines of "Is Dave from Megadeth a paedophile" are not a good look, and the kinda of disrepute that is going to be a condition in most contracts. He was fired because that was the PR at the time.
