Just sold my XXX head to help fund some recording gear. I still have a JSX, Crate GX130C and GSP 1101 rig. Looking for something new. The Jets City 100HDM has my interest. Budget is $1000 or less preferably less.

If you're interested in a Jet City, you can get a JCA100 or 50 for much cheaper than the HDM model, and tonally they are identical. Great amps though!

I'll have to do some research on those other Jet City's, thanks.

My old (JCA) 100 LTD + Fortin Grind (or 33) was the best combination I ever had.

....and that was out of a Fryette Deliverance, Peavey 5150, Bogner Shiva, Marshall JCM 800 2203, Mesa Mark V 35, Marshall DSL100H, Randall RD20, Marshall Vintage Modern, Orange OR15.....

    Oh wait, different thread.

    Need more info:

What tones do you like? Maybe a "sounds like X band"? Or genres you want it to cover?
    Feature set?
    Number of channels?
    Cleans?
    Reverb?
Will you run pedals like OD/dirt?
    FX loops for other effects?
    Used or new?
    MIDI?
What speaker cab will you run through and what speakers?
Will you be playing in bedroom, apartment, house, music studio, live? Basically do you need 15w (which is plenty loud) or 100w. If it's preamp gain driven than it will sound same at a 1 or 7, but do you need it to play well at lower volumes? Do you need to compete with a drummer and other guitarists?
What tuning are you in? Certain amps sound glorious in E and like shizz in drop-q, and vice versa!

I'm sure other people can chime in if I missed some important specs?

(FWIW I'm a Peavey whore and even I don't think the XXX was a particularly great amp.)

    Lets narrow it down.

What dont you like? $1k will get you pretty much any major tone you are after.

Yep, only difference is the depth control on the HDM, which the JCA50/100 do not have.

But if you can drill a hole and solder three parts together, you can add one. Well worth it in my opinion. I got a JCA50 cheap, added a depth control and it’s been great. I planned a bunch of other mods but never bothered since with a boost it sounds great.

The only other thing is they come from the factory biased ridiculously cold. Mine was at like 10ma or something. Turned it up to around 35ma, much thicker and punchier.

If you miss you're old XXX, then I highly recommend the 3120. I used that to record my last EP + shows and it was a beast for the price!

Those are pretty grindy and saturated sounds.

I recommend something dryer and tighter, like a used Mesa Mark (III, IV, etc), TriAxis, Randall RD100, or Laney IRT.

Gotta go used, Reverb.com all day long!
    1. VHT/Fryette Deliverance 60 (Single Channel, my fav all time amp) $750
    2. Rivera Tre (2 Channel with AMAZING cleand and almost my fav gain) $800
    3. Victory Kraken (2 channel/fantastic cleans and tons of volume options) $900
    4. EVH 50W (3 Channel, great just overly familiar sound) $550
The prices I list is from shopping hard and patiently, I negotiate on Reverb.com a lot.

Unfortunately with regards to the deliverance, their used prices have been quite inflated recently. Some sellers are under the impression that it is discontinued since it's no longer listed on fryette's website. Word is that you can simply ask Fryette direct for a new Deliverance, and that it's simply not on the website while they get the Deliverance II going.

edit: but yes if you see a deliverance reasonably priced, snag that shit immediately!

Ya just saw a deliverance 60 for $750 on reverb last week and there’s currently a tre on eBay for $900 make offer.

I shop hard and negotiate, so I’ve been fortunate to buy these amps for the suggested prices.

Tre is an awesome amp, just kinda cheesy looking but it’s truly fantastic.
