Rocktron Velocity 120 - for my preamp pedals and HX Stomp.
Quilter Microblock - for the living room rig.

For cabs I have a Mesa OS 412, Vader 412/212, and a Panama 112.

Even with just this I feel like I have too much. Haha

This thread makes me feel a lot better. I thought I had too many. I’d tend to flip em though.

Roadster - can’t see me selling this one. It’s got some cracking tones
5153 el34 - highly likely I’ll keep this too
JCM 800 SC20 - probably to be flipped
5153 6l6 - just flipped (again)
AxeFX 3 mk2 - second time’s a charm Highly unlikely I’ll be daft enough to flip this again.
Waza TAE - a keeper for sure

There’s 2 go with the msgs above

How do you like the VHX?

I always thought it was a strange decision for Diezel to create such an amp. But IDK, at the same time it might be the best Diezel out there.

Right? Having the Herbert I’m totally interested...

The VHX really IS the best Diezel out there, and I think one of best amps ever made. The Engl SE I also have was my previous be-all, end-all of amps, but as always happens, finally getting one just made me curious what else was out there. To be sure, I could get by with the SE for life and be content with my tone. It's still one of the best (for my taste).

But the VHX is a different flavor. More gain on tap and a lot tighter and more saturated than the Herbert or VH4 (though still a little less so than the Engl), but with the different channels and different voicings and channel "shapes", you can still get those sounds out of it no problem. It's just that it's capable of going beyond those amps rather than purely being meant to be an all Diezels in one box semi-modeler sort of idea, which it also is. But I love the fact I don't need an OD to tighten up or push anything with the more extreme voicings.

The flexibility of it is what sold me though. I'm not a huge effects user, but after having the Kemper and Axe-Fx III, I got a little more into them and having all the effects I could want in a tube head without needing to build a board was a huge plus. The only pedal I own is a Horizon Devices Precision Drive and I only use that with the Mesa. I much prefer going straight into the amp, and the VHX is the best of both worlds for tube amp sounds and modeler flexibility. Don't need to run a cab with it; it has direct outs with an IR loader and you can play with the mic type and virtual placement. Overall, my favorite piece of gear.

Awesome review man, thanks! You don’t feel at all like it’s a ‘Jack of all trades/master of none’ at all?

Nope. I mean, you can certainly get more in depth with effects on units like the Axe-Fx and such. The parameters are a bit simplified on them on the VHX, but that was intentional, they don't want it to be complicated, and what's there is still more than sufficient for my needs.

As far as sound goes, I really can't say enough good things about it. It retains all the tightness of the Engl, but is a little more open and articulate. My main rhythm setting is the red channel, classic voicing, shape 0 with the gain at 80%. That probably means very little to you if you've never seen the UI, but basically at that setting, even with the gain up that high, it has one of the clearest gain tones I've heard. A little bit like the Mesa Triple Rectifier, but more aggressive, far less fizzy, and it feels waaay better to me, not nearly as stiff and dry and difficult to play with. But still a little less so than the Engl, which feels a touch more fluid, but not as open and defined, though Engl's high gain can be a bit much for some people.

Then there's the clean, crunch, lead sounds, etc. All of them are great. I'd find it hard to believe with all the options available that someone couldn't create a sound they at least are extremely happy with, even if maybe not their favorite, as you can only go so far with it without straight up going into the circuit and voicing of a completely different amp. But a friend of mine sent me his VHX settings and they sounded completely different from mine, so it really does cover a lot of ground, and also covers it astonishingly well.

No problem! Again, I have a load of good things to say about that amp, but doesn't necessarily mean it'll be for everyone, much like any other piece of gear. So if you have any more specific questions, just let me know.

Yes, thanks for such a detailed answer.

I also had a Herbert until not long ago, and it was one of my all-time favorite amps.

I can feel my Diezel GAS is coming back!!

All I can say is they ain't cheap, but I don't regret my purchase in the slightest. I was 95% sold on a Herbert MK III myself, but decided to shell out for the VHX last minute, and totally glad I did.

I was going back and forth between the VHX and Herbert MkIII for a while, but ended up going with the Herbert. Played both of them back to back in the store and the VHX was just phenomenal, but for my uses I didn't need the effects. Might have been swayed by a VHXS though.

I'm hoping every day for a VHX rack preamp though. That's my dream piece of gear at the minute.

Could probably fit in a Mesa rack case? I’d like this to.

Just a Fryette UL and a 50CL.

(I had a DAR Tuzzia that I sent back to DAR for repairs, and they the guy decided to just keep everyone's money and amps, and I never got it back. Still pissed about that.)

I honestly don't know what I want next, as the Fryette sound is definitely for me. I've considered a Kraken, a Mark IV (which used to be my grail amp) and one of the Ceriatones. But, I'm worried I'll still prefer the Fryette sound.
