Aside from already made ones from dealers that ship overseas via reverb, are folks from the US able to place orders for a Japanese Strandberg?

I don't really want to pay over $2,200 for a guitar made in Indonesia, and now nearly $3,000 for their neck thru models seems absolutely absurd, these are Washberg USA prices not long ago.

    What are my options?

For the record I know I can reach out to some of those reverb dealers, but I don't really want to start unless I'm serious about it, and I'm not sure how much language barrier there would even be.

From what I understand, you can order via Digimart.... Believe me I was confused also in terms of there not being an "easy" place to find the models and to order etc.

I'm assuming digimart is a platform that exports, not a dealer themselves?

correct, although the site itself has an english FAQ page that does list the dealers, so you may be able to then google the dealers to find their own pages

Digimart is an online marketplace that is populated by Japanese dealers/stores. Digimart does not export. You typically have to use a proxy service to buy from Digimart or deal directly with the store if the store does international sales.

What are you looking for? Do you want to buy an existing J Strandberg from a store or do you want to custom order a J. Strandberg? The latter is hard. The former is easy.

The J Bodens are pretty great though. Probably the only Strandberg branded product ever worth its sale price.

After three attempts to get USA-bergs going they gave up.

Yeah, it didn't last very long. I wouldn't be surprised if under a dozen "Fano-bergs" exist.

Ishibashi or Ikebe are the two shops I've frequently bought from in Japan and both have been excellent.
Easy to order from, good customer service, and ridiculously fast shipping.

Hard to blame Fano, a company that does plenty of successful OEM work vs. Strandberg that's been through something like half a dozen manufacturers.

I really don't want to pile on Strandberg...again...so I'll leave it at that.

The J-bodens are pretty great, but a lot of the ones put out now are actually priced higher than the old made-to-measure Swedish ones. When they first came out they were priced around 350,000Y, and were selling out pretty fast. Now the average might be 500,000Y? It's hard to justify at that price. They have gotten some decent specs down though:

And yea, of course if you see something on Reverb you like, those shops know what they're doing in terms of shipping stuff over to you.

3200 Boden J standard are 3200 dollars with veneers.
I don't know how that makes them any kind of deal.
but hey at least the fretwork is good.

I'm not saying Indobergs are bad, I've just played the OS model and didn't feel like it was quite as nice as the USA one I had, and the Indo one is even more expensive than that was. Above 2k there are big diminishing returns for sure, but I've never played an Indonesian guitar to date I felt was worth nearly that amount of money. If you feel differently that's fine, and in fact many people do since they can't keep them in stock.

no i'm just saying that I think it's kinda silly.

The base strandberg model right now is 1500 or 1600. Anything above that is just features and random stuff for people that really like that brand.

The Jboden standard is 1600 more and and has the same specs as the indo standard....

at that point i'd just get a dfferent guitar.
