    Hi!

I finally found a nice '83 2203 and had to do some (recording) comparisons.
Which one is your favorite and why?

    Best regards,
    Simon

The 2203 sounds a lot better than the Recto.

Recto just has almost like a hiss or mudiness or artifacts or something damn, JCM smokes it all day long.

JCM sounds great, nice midrange on it. Makes me think old school Sepultura. Were you using a boost with the Recto? I wont say it's not how a Recto generally sounds (a little scooped, fizzy on top, boomy on bottom) but they are pretty flexible, could probably be dialed in a little better.

@All Thanks! Surprisingly enough, most of the votes went to the Marshall. Which is my favorite too.
It just sits right in the mix, has a great articulation and a heavy midrange, even with somewhat scooped sounding speakers (G12-K100) and the best of it all: it roars ;)
@cGoEcYk Yes, the Rev F was boosted as well. That's one of the best sounds i could get out of it. But the amp could have been a littler loader, while recording. Gain was on 2 o'clock. Bass and Treble on 12 and Mid and Presence on 11:30. And even with two boosts and the V30s it sounds scooped, compared to the MArshall :D

    Nice sounds.

I prefer 2203 with 57. I think if you tuned higher 57+421 might work better, but here some definition was lost with that combo.

Recto sounds a bit modern and scooped, don't like it as much....

When playing that low I'd run the bass a little lower and mid/treble a notch or two higher to get it to clear up some. In this comparison the Marshall definitely sounds better, but I am confident the Mesa tone could be improved. Also nice Maxon ST9 Pro+! I got one last year, easily my favorite OD that I've owned!

    Thank you very much ;)
I hear that on mine also, but if i go below 6, or 7 on the gain pot, i loose all the natural (pinch) harmonics.

    I tried it all...
    This time, i could not.
Yes, the ST9pro+ Supertube is nice. And funny if you tell somebody what pedal you use.

Too much tube screamer on each, although I thought the Mesa sounded better in the clip.

Surprisingly the Marshall with 57+421. Recto was to fizzy. 57+421 more open than only 57
