My band, VINTERSEA, recently debuted our new album on the metal blog Invisible Oranges. As of today, it is available on iTunes, Spotify, BandCamp, etc. We play melodic blackened/death metal (at least that's what people tell me) with a few diversified female vocalist, and we are extremely proud...
For my money, Clapton didn't get any better than Derek and the Dominoes. Plus Duane Allman on slide guitar...I picked up a TON of my phrasing from the Layla & Other Assorted Love Songs album. Really passionate playing and song writing, as well.
I don't know if I ever would have found the heavier side of music without Static X. They weren't a favorite of mine recently or anything, but I always had some respect for him for being a gateway metalhead.
RIP Wayne
My female-fronted progressive metal band, Asterion, just released our debut EP last week, and woah the response has been overwhelming! We have been featured on several metal blogs as a notable release of the week, and have had tremendous response on our BandCamp page.
We didn't really put a...
I definitely wouldn't say this is bad, there are things I like and things that seem formulaic. I do love hearing that Minette-y cadences just like he used in Human Abstract, though!
Asterion, my female-fronted progressive metal band from Oregon, just posted our first single on YouTube. We have an EP coming out next month, but let us know what you think of this tune, and feel free to like us on Facebook!
For fans of Scale the Summit, Devin Townsend, post-metal, Steven...
There is certainly a difference between being the marketing/PR person (or manager) of a band and being the creative leader, though. For example, I received my MBA in marketing. It makes a lot of since for me to network and communicate with outside entities, and to have a lot of say in our...
This thread makes me very glad to work in such a collaborative band. There are 5 song writers in our 5 person band, and so far it hasn't led to any problems.
I am personally all-for collaboration and would recommend trying it, but I think the bigger issue is that they aren't willing to learn...
Always a controversial opinion, but the best amp I've played for clear chords at high gain is the Axe Fx II. That has always been a very important attribute for me (a la Scale the Summit), and I couldn't find a production amp that gave me that clarity until the Fractal stuff came along.
I think that people are forgetting the most obvious thing here...that the guys in Scale the Summit are some of the most hard-working, gracious, fan-driven, and reliable guys in the scene. Having met each of them a couple of times and having interacted with Chris and Mark online over the years, I...
Not to be contrary, because I'm sure there will be examples, but I think that one of the defining characteristics of metalcore is that the bass plays rhythmically along with the guitars and kick drum. If they are doing much slapping or playing other interesting licks, it pretty quickly starts to...
It seems to me that you are disappointed with Born of Osiris, Meshuggah, and the lack of older bands releasing material rather than the genre...there is a ton of good extreme progressive metal coming out that is absolutely killer, you just have to discover the bands like you did back in the day.
I don't think it would come as a surprise to anyone who knows me that I really like this. Great work! It is a very nice blend of post-rock, metal, and ambient.
This isn't a criticism in the least, just an observation...there are some amazing opportunities for Wilson-esque vocals in these...
