I know I'm supre late to the party but I really enjoy playing and tracking Bass. I recently tried a Dingwall NG3 and fell in love with the B string and the comfort in playing the bass. However, with the wider neck width, my had did cramp up playing the 6 string, so I'd say the 5 string would be...
That makes sense. However, what stops us for making the same posts in the bass section of the forum? Regardless if it's an ERB, it's still bass.
Even if the forum is called Sevenstring.org, how many 8 string and 9 string posts did we have back in the day in the extended range forum?
Let's see...
What's your definition of an extended range bass?
- Fanned Fret?
- Scale length > 37"?
- Has more than 6 strings?
I'd say the sevenstring forums are primarily for guitar players and we have talkbass or gearspace for in depth bass discussions. I dabble in bass but think of myself primarily as a...

I agree. For me it's exploring variety. I'd like every guitar I have, to be different. I couldn't handle having 10 prs that looked and played exactly the same.
In the future I'd love to try a Tom Anderson and explore other boutiques.
So it's finally arrived. I've setup the guitar like my PIA and so far it plays pretty well. I'll spend about a week with it before writing a review with the NGD.
I agree, it's thicker than I thought it would be. I've never been a fan of thick necks, but this is still thinner than some les...
My suhr modern feels very stiff when bending strings. It's strung with NYXL 0942 just like my ibanez Pia, however I can comfortable do 1.5 step bends on the Pia but it takes a lot of effort to do so on the Suhr.
What could be causing this issue? Should I consider loosening the trem springs? Or...
Well even with the modern accoutrements that come with the Suhr Modern, other brands have introduced upgrades and improved ergonomics in recent times that are considered more modern.
Ibanez:
* Thinner necks
* Improved floating tremollo system with the Edge Pro / Edge III / ZPS system to...
Take it to a luthier. Suhr may have received a dryer batch of Pau Ferro that was used. Potentially it will need to be soaked in mineral oil.
Have you reached out to Suhr for advice on how to best look after it? If it causes too much trouble, I'd recommend replacing the Pau Ferro fretboard with...
@MaxOfMetal I remember a few years ago you mentioned you were impressed by the suhrs you have. Do you still feel the same or gravitated to different guitars now?
For those that have been playing for a few years, how do you usually practice? Do you focus more on older songs or learning new material?
Do you look at exploring different styles or focus on theory?
I've always dialled in simple tones such as what sounds good for a basic lead, rhythm and clean. However I never really looked into advanced tone shaping for home recording.
How do you go about? Do you have a thicker tone for a wall of sound when tracking left and right guitars and a brighter...
This is great to hear. I setup all my guitars with 3/64 or 1.2mm action on the low E and close to 1mm on the high E. Was worried that I wouldn't be able to go that low.
Thanks, i'd say the Bengal burst is my favourite colour out of their modern pro line up.
Thanks everyone.
Thanks for that, I'll go for a similar setup. My Pia is at about 1.2mm on the bass and 1mm for treble. Both my bridge and neck are about 3.2 mm from the strings and the middle is pretty much flush with the guitar body. I'll play around with it but will use your setup as a guide.
I'm based in...
My GAS is through the roof now. I've finally put through an order for a Suhr Modern Pro+ in Bengal Burst. I now have to wait for it to be delivered ... and it's killing me.
Expect an NGD soon.
I know this is very a subjective question but asking my fellow Suhr owners @gunch @yan12...
I’ve always been a fan of Guthrie Govan and fell in love with his old suhr modern bengal burst guitar. More recently, Bruno Henrique’s playing is making me consider finally getting one.
Lately I’ve been thinking of picking one up but on the fence regarding whether I should get one or a more...
I agree. I'd say the Suhr is at the top with regard to build and quality. Mayones at a close second and finally caparison.
I had a Mayones Qatsi Deluge or the pricer Duvell and just couldn't gell with the guitar. Build quality, fretwork and the pickups were amazing but just not expressive...
