Has Steve Vai ever used anything other than the Blaze for 7-string? (Blaze Custom, Evo 7?)

He also does that so the high E string doesn't get stuck under the lip of the pickup bobbin when doing whammy acrobatics. Dimebag did the same thing on his guitars. Funny, because both EVH and Steve Vai would up with pickups they loved the sound of based on such an accident, resulting in...

Has Steve Vai ever used anything other than the Blaze for 7-string? (Blaze Custom, Evo 7?)

In what ways did the Blaze Custom differ from the Blaze? I think the only thing I could like a bit more about the Blaze is if it had a little more transient attack, and a slightly less compressed feel. The descriptions says "you'll get more attack and hotter harmonic overtones" so I wonder if...

Has Steve Vai ever used anything other than the Blaze for 7-string? (Blaze Custom, Evo 7?)

I've just always found it interesting that the Blaze Custom and Evolution 7 are basically signature pickups for him, and maybe he used them at some point but I can't find any evidence he ever did. It's all Blaze right up to the most recent 7V7. Nothing wrong with the Blaze, I love it. But I do...

Has Steve Vai ever used anything other than the Blaze for 7-string? (Blaze Custom, Evo 7?)

Title is self-explanatory. Every time a new Ibanez Vai 7-string is released, they're still putting the tried and true Blaze pickups in there. Has he ever used the Blaze Custom or Evolution 7 string pickups?

    Ibanez 7th Heaven Video

Maybe Marten Hagstrom, because he doesn't do leads. But Fredrik Thordendal makes full use of all 8-strings.

    Ibanez 7th Heaven Video

I could be wrong but I didn't start hearing that genre label attached to that sound until bands like Periphery and Animals as Leaders blew up. Back in the 90s/early 00s, Meshuggah was just some indefinable prog metal band with polyrhythms, but nobody was calling them "Djent." Also I've never...

"Inlay Stickers" Colored Pickup Bobbin Stickers?

Has anybody used these? I have a pair of Blazes in my Ibby 7 string that would look dashing in green without having to spend $240. https://www.inlaystickers.com/products/copy-of-pickup-stickers-for-7-string-guitar-humbuckers I understand Universal Jems used to sell a similar product but...

Ibanez 7 String RG with thickest/narrowest neck profile

For anybody still interested I recently acquired a very early RG7620 with the all maple neck and it couldn't feel MORE different than the 3-piece maple/bubinga neck RG7421. Noticeably thicker with more shoulder. I was expecting a more subtle difference but it's pretty drastic. Both very cool.

Dimebucker vs BL USA L500XL comparison

The BLUSA seems to have a much more natural frequency curve - even if they both have that hairy aggressive high-mid thing going on, the Dimebucker has it to an almost absurd degree. The Bill n Becky L500XL is another variation yet, with slightly wider blades it seems even less spiky in the...

    My '00 Ibanez RG7420

I think the Lo Pro Edge 7 is a drop-in, and would pretty much make it as good as identical to the RG7620.

    7 string PIA anyone?

The market is nuts right now for Ibanez Vai 7-strings (and just about everything else). Reissue some MIJ models and I'm sure they would sell like hotcakes.

For EBMM Petrucci Guitars - Crunch Lab/Liquifire vs Illuminator Set

When I asked Dimarzio what 7-string pickups would be closest to the original Music Man Petrucci pickups (the "custom wound" ones they won't sell directly), I was told the Evo 7 in the bridge and the Blaze neck. Not sure if their answer would change if I asked for 6-string pickups though.

Pickup Choices for Thickening the Sound of a Floyd Rose-Equipped Guitar

It doesn't seem so - I think it's still as articulate in the higher frequencies as before, just has a little bit more heft in the low mids and bass.

Pickup Choices for Thickening the Sound of a Floyd Rose-Equipped Guitar

Well I got the FU Tone brass 42mm block in my Gotoh. It is certainly a change, more bass response, a bit fatter sound. Interesting, not completely sure which I prefer, it really depends what tone I'm seeking. It's nice for variety at least, since I have two Axis guitars that would otherwise...

Would you be able to check the heel width for each of these sometime if it's not too much trouble? Thanks again for these dimensions :metal:

Pickup Choices for Thickening the Sound of a Floyd Rose-Equipped Guitar

That's good to know. I probably wouldn't dissect the Dimarzio EVH pickups since they're not available anywhere else and I'd hate to jack up an old set. Updated considerations for my reference, N - Air Norton, PAF Pro, Gravity Storm, Liquifire/Illuminator B - Imperium, D-Sonic/Crunch...
