Must have been quite the stack of pedals... lol... ANYTHING labeled 'Mesa' in Canada isn't cheap, even used. Mind you in BC, you may have more people selling them, thus a slightly lesser going rate than here on the East Coast. With L&M being pretty much the only place to buy stuff aside from...
I can't speak as to how accurate it is to the real thing but there's a Koch Powertone amp model on the Mooer PreAmp Live and with a boost, it can definitely do a 'metal' tone.
For those looking to try out a Rat as a boost, I highly recommend you give the Joyo Splinter a shot. It's super cheap and has a couple of mode switches so you can tweak the tone even more than a standard Rat pedal.
It's funny, with all of the various 'clone' pedals coming & going, I don't think there's a single one of the TC Boost + Distortion out there. An OG (used) version sells for over $400, so I'm surprised even the chinese 'knockoff' companies haven't even bothered. As far as the Preamp pedal goes, I...
For me, it's all about getting tight, percussive palm muting (ie: old schoo thrash like Anthrax, DRI, etc...) and using a boost/od seems to be the best way to get it.
Thing is, depending on the amp, some od pedals may be too bright, some may be too muddy or fuzzy, etc.. That's why it's nice to...
That's the one thing I love about having the HX Fx board. There are over a dozen really good ods in there that you can just swap in & out depending on which amp or even guitar you are using.
Just this week I picked up a Duellist clone off Amazon and it sounds amazing as a boost. And that's the...
This is why I have at least 7 or 8 different od pedals. Whenever I use an amp sim, it seems like they all react differently to different pedals.
With some, a TS9 variant sounds great but with a different pedal, not so much. Take that same TS9 and use it with a different amp and it doesn't sound...
That's what I mean. They stopped selling Behringer ages ago but still sold TC pedals because they are pretty decent. I was just wondering if it's because that they now carry JHS and Earthquaker that they felt that they didn't 'need' to carry TC anymore. Either that or maybe their distribution...
Slightly off topic but speaking of L&M, has anyone else noticed that they don't sell TC Electronic pedals anymore ? I'm thinking maybe that since they don't sell Behringer gear anymore, they just kind of decided it was time to dump TC as well, since they've now started carrying JHS and...
Thing is, if it was an assortment of musicians getting together to pay tribute in a small tour, that's one thing. However, THIS is being touted as a 'Pantera reunion', implying that the band will be reforming, even though the two founding members are dead. It'd be like Ringo Starr putting out a...
I forgot to mention that I also have a Tech 21 GT2 but since that has the 'mic/speaker' emulation built in, it's not that easy to use with the CAB M. You really have to have just the right IRs with that one to get it to sound good.
The 'high gain' pedals that have are Megalith Delta, MXR 5150, Bogner Ecstacy Red and a Visual Sounds Son Of Hyde. Not gonna lie, tit does take a bit more finessing to get a good sound out of the pedals than it does a modeller (ie: GSP1101, Pod X3, etc..) but it is do-able.
I run all of my pedals/modelers through a Two Notes CAB M and it's one of the best things I've ever bought. You can run 2 IRs at once, it has both pre and power amp simulation as well as an eq section and an 'exciter' which is comparable to a much more flexible BBE Sonic Maximizer. (it has a mix...
Choosing the right IR to go with a preamp can make or break your tone. When you were using the previous pedals, what were you using for IRs ? York Audio and Bogren Digital have some really good ones.
Have you tried any of the Mooer Pre Amp pedals ? They're reasonably priced, designed to go...
It's tough to pick individual alubms, so I'll just go w/ bands in general.
Naked Raygun
Big Black
Shellac
Didjits
D.R.I.
Bad Religion
The Hard-Ons
Discharge
Just to name a few...
The program that I use to make 'custom' ones is the STL Tones Ignite Libra. You can load in 8 individual irs and use a positional mic to make a single file you can save.
As far as IRs go, I recently tried the Bogren Downtuned IR pack and was pretty impressed. Mix those with some of the others...
That's what I like about the CAB M, you can use 2 simultaneous IRs and blend them. Even more, there are a few programs out there that will let you take multiple IRs and blend them together to make a single one that you can put in a loader. The tools are definitely out there to make some really...
