Yassssss. I love my VP312. I've heard these are killer on drums, especially overheads.
Jokes aside, I actually do run my DI signal through my VP312, then line into my interface. It does sounds different in comparison to just going into the interface pre. These things have so much juice that its...
Hey dude! The first thing I notice is that the clean vocals are very thin and they do not cut, and the screams are way way louder. Might have been on purpose, but at the beginning of the song and around 2:57, they just don't cut like I'd expect them to. I think the guitars are overall a bit too...
These issues have nothing to do with your master. Mastering will not fix issues in a mix; the issues should solved at the source. IMO understanding compression/dynamics control and how it works will really help you right off the bat. For example, kick and snare drums are transient heavy sounds...
Hey man, I can tell that the drums drag a bit... they aren't quite in time in spots - especially on some of the tom hits. Overall this mix is really dark and lacks punch and dynamics. The balance isn't quite there, the synths are overbearing all together, and the cymbals are harsh. The lead...
The biggest area of improvement I hear is with your drum mix. It's very dry. The drums as a whole could use some parallel compression and reverb to make them really punchy but also add space to them. You could really boost up that sub region on the kick. The snare doesn't have that snap or...
Hardware will give you zero latency, you mention an amp - not sure if you have a physical amp or if you were talking about plugins. Monitoring your plugins will never give you 0 latency. If you upgrade to something like Thunderbolt, youll get less latency than USB, but it will still be there...
Hot damn, I just love the 80's vibe this is giving off. I also really like the use of all those old samples.
What did you use for the rhythm synth that has the stereo effect?
No crits, this was just awesome.
Actually, this version has less sub bass than the original. I ended up raising the sub bass by .5dB, but then lowered all the instruments by 1dB to let the vocals cut through more. I think the sub region is fine - I have plenty of headroom. That bass sub is only active until up to about 230hz...
You know I'm delicate, why'd you have to go there??? :ugh:
During the hard parts of the song, my limiter is limiting by around 3.7db and on the softer parts its limiting around 1.8-2db. My damn bus compressor was spiking on the kick and snare hits to almost 5 fuckin dB. Here's to overlooking...
When I post my mixes for critique and opinions, I fully expect people to tear them apart and tell me exactly what they think. When I first started doing this, I would get offended and defensive if someone told me my mix wasn't great because of X, Y, and Z. Doing this requires thick skin and I...
Really thinking about it, I think that Drew is pointing out something that I'm struggling with - something that is holding me back from taking my mixes to the next level. I can EQ. I can balance. However, at the end of the day my mixes will only be 80% of the way there if I can't create dynamics...
Is that a good thing? lol. Thanks for the feedback.
It probably is. I know you prefer a more natural sounding mix, where as I'm a bit more on the opposite side. However, yeah, it probably is a touch squashed, but if anything the drums are the least squashed thing in the mix compared to the...
The guitars are really really loud in comparison to the drum kit. The kick gets drowned out in general and there isn't much of it in the sub region; sounds like its competing with the bass. The snare cuts through but its really thin. Cool tone on the guitars though!
Your drum mix needs some improvements. I can tell that the drums are programmed - they need more humanization. Also, the balance is very guitar focused. The drum shells just don't cut and your cymbals are sitting too high in the mix. Keep at it!
