Hey, some info regarding your facial hair question. We can definitely grow it out, while we're embedded, whether or not we can keep it on US FOB's depends on the commander. We'll be in the North, which is run by the Germans, so we might have a bit more leeway. We'll see. We've seen video of other ETT's and some work closely with ODA (the SF guys), and look relatively native.

A number of Afghan Language/Cultural Instructors have suggested we grow at least a mustache, because "Only Communists and homosexuals have no facial hair". [IMG]

No problem dude. :yesway:. So the fanned frets feel nice and natural? Easy (or the same as normal frets) to sweep on and shit?

Taking a guitar? Hehehehe. I first started with getting quotes from Roter and Mike Sherman to build a baritone-scaled, 7-string MiniStar clone, then when I found out that we were going to be embedded, I decided it was crazy to bring a several hundred dollar plus custom guitar to Afghanistan, so I was going to get a cheappie fold-up silent guitar off eBay, but then I thought about it, and as much as it would be nice to have it there if it is a bit of a cusshie mission, it would bug me to no end if it just sat there. I may yet get one of these because all I'd need would be headphones.

I also thought of getting a baritone strum stick, but it's not silent and that likely would not be good.

I doubt it. We're "openly embedded", nothing SF-ish. It's more like a CA mission, but with the ANA.

Yup. Heading-up a Medical Embedded Transitional Training team. Basically, if the ANA is sleeping in the dirt, we're sleeping in the dirt. A lot of outside the wire stuff.

... and you're still in Ft. Polk, LA? I'll be down in Shreveport for a few days before heading to Ft. Riley, KS and then off to Afghanistan for 9 months.

Prior Service is still welcome in the Group.

Yeah man, Lake Charles is about 3 minutes away. haha. As regards to good music stores, there is Lake Charles Music and Doc's Music Shoppe. I prefer Lake Charles Music myself. There is a dude in there named Tim that gives out incredible deals. Plus they have the perpetual 50% off string sale. Cheaps strings FTW!!
