  • Wow tough question. I think the best thing you can do is probably just listen to the songs and the individual parts, trying to transcribe it and then analyze it. If you haven't done so already, it's also definitely a good idea to get into some basic jazz theory, that'll help you with transcribing and understanding why certain parts are the way they are. Even though there's no traditional jazz harmony (chords) happening on Focus, it'll still be very helpful and give you a good foundation to relate the more obscure, avantgarde and out of the box parts to.

    OH! Quick question... do you have any lessons or tips that'd help with playing some of that Cynic material? The chords, and the structure friggin' kills me, it's so different... Thanks a ton, by the way.
