      If you're going to cut down a tree and use it, you're going to want to dry the wood first, because if it's green the vibration from the strings won't resonate whatsoever (think acrylic guitars). You can do this is one of 2 ways, using a low heat kiln, or waiting around a year for it to air dry.

      Just give the wood a wipe with mineral spirits to get any dust/oils off. All the grain sealers/oils etc are applied after you're done working with it.
