    NGD (Fractal content)

I've tried Fracpad and while it's rather homemade and unpolished, it also doesn't solve the issue of effortless realtime control. If I could pair a mobile Axe-Edit with a MIDI knob controller, now we would be in business. The Quad Cortex is still the best modeler UI I've worked with and that's...

Blackstar coming out with something new?

Yeah not particularly impressed with the sound samples. The sound of these reminds me of the Peavey Classic series and there's something about that where it sounds too stiff in the midrange for both cleans and overdrive. It's fine, but it's not going to blow me away.

    NGD (Fractal content)

I'm the resident Fractal UI complainer so take this with a bucket of salt. The front panel UI is clunky. Fractal is generally really bad at doing any UI related improvements so just getting them to add simple double click shortcuts to access commonly used blocks was a huge win for me. Those...

Are we finally able to 100% cut the cables in our guitar chain?

You could but latency becomes an issue. Usually something like guitar -> wireless -> pedals works well enough but when you add more wireless units the latency adds up. I would think two wireless units at about 5ms latency would be enough to be noticeable when playing. At least I can tell it...

Yeah there's no real need to get 3rd party IRs unless you have some favorites already. The stock library is vast and good sounding and mixing two IRs together will give you great results.

Blackstar coming out with something new?

At 6.7 kilos these are very light. I have to wonder what the compromises are, e.g smaller transformers or solid-state gain stages like on some Blackstar models. I expect solid-state gain stages are in use since it only has two preamp tubes one of which is probably used as the phase inverter...

Have there been any Mesa amp changes from Gibson?

Even those guys touring racks tend to have just regular amp heads stashed into custom rack enclosures. Or separate amp heads and then a rack for effects units and their backups. Did not know Victory sold rack wings for their lunchbox amps. They look a bit weird but it's cool it's an option...

Have there been any Mesa amp changes from Gibson?

That's not an issue with digital pots but particular to the way the Triaxis works. Digital control of analog gear is more complicated than it seems though as the values of those pots is pretty integral in how the tone stack works. Hughes & Kettner has a good overview on how they do it...

    Great looking combo amps?

Too bad they look like a rat's nest + hot glue inside. For what they cost, I just don't want that. They are probably reliable and fine but I just don't want that kind of construction. I can just imagine the hot glue drying out, coming loose and rattling around.

    Terrible looking combo amps?

Holdsworth and Ty Tabor of King's X were the main known users of the Yamaha DG series.

    Great looking amp heads?

I like how the Victory VC35 lunchbox looks. It's a great, practical form factor. The tolexed Deluxe version looks better but I don't see it worth the price for real spring tank and tremolo. I like the digital reverb on the lunchbox a lot. The copper color is pretty unique too and looks nice in...

    Terrible looking combo amps?

While there are better sounding amps nowadays, I felt back in the day it held the modeling crown for quite many years. These came out in 1998 so it's pretty much given that over 20 years later things sound better. The ease of use is still relevant today, with no other digital amp managing to...

    Terrible looking combo amps?

My opinion could not be more opposite. I absolutely love the Yamaha DG80 as an amp, amp design and visuals. The red makes it look unique, it goes well with the black and cane. Everything about it is super easy to use. Granted, the buttons etc are a late 1990s thing that looks a little bit dated...

    Terrible looking combo amps?

Acoustic amps are weird. Like does the tolex have to be those shades of brown just because an acoustic is often light colored?

    Great looking amp heads?

If it doesn't do it for you the first time, it's probably not the right amp. The treadplate feels unnecessary but I like it otherwise.
